This is a mod that replaces the unreliable Schecter switches with a similar, but more reliable switch that you can find at Radio Shack. If you have soldering equipment, this mod costs $6. You need to open it up so this will void the warranty.

These are the original SPDT switches.

You can find this switch at radio shack for $2.99.

You need to remove the old switches by desoldering these points and pulling them out.

Resolder the new switches in place.
This pic shows the new one in place with the old one in the back.

Gook luck guys. Cheap fix with a much higher quality switch.

Anyone else had any luck with this? Also, i've search almost every online store in Australia and none of them have this exact switch..is there anywhere that ships them worldwide?

Yep, this mod looks good. I'm glad that these replacement switches can be found anywhere. The old microswitches, although apparantly sturdier, could only be specially ordered (from www.guitarheroparts.com)

I've added this to my Guitar Modding 101 sticky.

That one looks like the spacing of the contacts is different. I don't think that one will work.

Hmm, then please tell me this one could work:

http://www1.conrad.de/fas6/fh.php?fh_host=http://www1.conrad.de&fh_session=/scripts/wgate/zcop_b2c/~flN0YXRlPTM3NDI5MTc2MzE=?&fh_pic_url=//media.conrad.de&layout=b2c&finder=&fh_params=fh_eds%3D%25c3%259f%26fh_start_index%3D20%26fh_search%3Dschalter%2Bspdt%26fh_secondid%3Db2c703137%26fh_lister_pos%3D22%26fh_location%3D%252f%252fb2cconrad_de_b2c%252fde_DE%252f%2524s%253dschalter%255cu0020spdt%26fh_refview%3Dsearch

Haven't found anything else in german online shops. The only thing I'm not sure about is the spacing between the contacts. But someone in the official forums told me that the spacing is pretty much always the same.

Worked like a charm! Thank you. I didn't know how to solder at all before I did this but I just borrowed a friend's iron and figured it out. So it's a pretty easy fix. Apparently every Radioshack carries SPDT switches so anyone can find the part.

Is this the only way to fix the my strummer? It is starting to not downstrum after every push and I really don't have any money for parts and a soldering kit, plus I really don't know how to solder.

so how long do these switches last? I just replaced mine last night and it's working great but am wondering if I should just keep some extras around or not

So, my strum bar on my GHWT guitar has finally given up the ghost. The mechanism is clearly connecting with the switches, so I guess they're the problem.

Thing is, we don't have RadioShack over here, or any big nationwide electronic component stores that are actually useful (that counts out Maplin, then). What I have found, though, is a RadioShack authorised sales place selling their branded stuff. Specifically, this:

http://www.barnstapletelecom.co.uk/prodDetail.php?p=2750016
(same thing here, link just for my own reference, can't bookmark 'cos I'm not on my computer...)

...reckon that'd do the job?

Alternatively, there's these:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=34835

Figured I'd try this first since it's probably cheaper than buying a new Les Paul... definitely not gonna bother with a new GHWT thing.
