NOTE: By joining #scorehero you have acknowledged that you have read the channel's RULES, found here.
In addition to the forums, we've now got our own official chat room.
The channel #scorehero has now been registered on irc.gamesurge.net.
For those unfamiliar with IRC, here's how you can join, using mIRC:
1. Download and install mIRC from www.mirc.com
2. Create an account on www.gamesurge.net (optional)
3. Verify your email and take note of your password (optional)
4. Run mIRC and type the following commands:
/server irc.gamesurge.net
Wait until you're connected to the server.
/authserv auth username password
(replacing "username" and "password" with your values, optional, if you registered above)
You should get an automatic response indicating "-AuthServ- I recognize you."
/join #scorehero
And that's it.
If you can't install mIRC or want to visit #scorehero without downloading additional software, visit www.gamesurge.net/chat.
Enjoy, and I hope to see you all there! _________________

It's not required to join the channel. But only those registered with gamesurge are recognized by certain chanserv controls.
Which you probably don't understand.. so I'll just say it's recommended to register with gamesurge, but not required. _________________

You can stick stuff in your "perform" menu too so you don't have to do this everytime you run mIRC. I'll just post some of my options menu that should be good enough to guide you to where you don't have to type stuff out everytime:
You can use a fake name and email address, but both are required (and email address must have correct syntax)
This will connect you automatically when mIRC starts. Change your port if you know you need to do so. GameSurge has listed on their site specific servers and the port numbers you can use with them. Most people don't need to bother with it, though.
Putting in your auth password instead of the garbage I've used to hide mine will auth you automatically when you start mIRC. Then it will automatically join #scorehero (and some other channels in my case). Finally, setting yourself to +ix will hide your hostmask (if you've successfully authenticated) and keep you out of various userlists (spam deterrent). _________________

My Macbook is just so good for what I need it for, though...and my PC is on its last legs. I plan on builiding a new one with my refund check next year. |

Trillian is a Windows only app that is primarily a multi-homed IM client (ICQ/AIM/YM/MSN/etc). It has IRC support, but it wouldn't be my first choice for a full featured IRC client (especially on a PC, where mIRC is a choice). Anyway, no Trillian on OSX, so... moot.
Google is still his friend.

I've just completed a fun IRC script to display the last five top scores for any given difficulty.
You simply type !last5 expert (or another difficulty name) and it automatically displays the results.
Example:
Quote: | <+Riz_lurk> !last5 expert
<JCirri> .: ScoreHero Stat Bot :.
<JCirri> Expert Community Total: 12,991,752
<JCirri> Last Five Top Scores:
<JCirri> random Unsung 423,880 100% 968 NS 5 hours ago
<JCirri> Brandvold More Than A Feeling 302,775 100% 726 NS 52 hours ago
<JCirri> random Fat Lip 286,948 100% 638 NS 4 days ago
<JCirri> Brandvold Story of My Love 348,526 100% 740 NS 5 days ago
<JCirri> random Heart Full of Black 276,968 100% 614 NS 6 days ago

Feel free to join and try it out. Just another fun way to encourage competition. _________________

Keeps giving me this message
Unable to connect to server (connection refused)
Have anything to do with my connection at my university? Or do I have some things messed up? _________________

The bot will currently show first place scores from both games, and shows community for both.

-
* Unable to connect to server (Software caused connection abort)
i get that, 99 times... i'm pretty sure i followed all of the instructions correctly, but i've never use an IRC chat before, so i have no idea what i'm doing. any help would be super, thanks.
