Your not crazy. I totally get your point. The challenge is the only thing keeping me playing this game. If they take that away, I just might not buy. _________________

Am I the only one who caught that?
Seems like a big hint hint to me.
Then again, this is IGN, so, who the hell knows, their not class A journalism.
Can't wait for friday though gotta see battle mod before I can give an opinion _________________

Hopefully they're just referring to career mode and they'll still whip out some insane bonus songs for those of us who can consistently beat Jordan. |

yeah, the timing thing kinda worries me too. im sure they will get it better before it comes out, but i have a bad feeling it is going to be just a little different and just throw all of us off in the beginning. _________________

My opinions:
Though I see what they are doing, making HO/PO's buttons more visible and bigger, they dont need that drastic of a change. It looks cartoony.
They need to keep in hyperspeed. Someone needs to tell them to implement it. I think its very important to the game.
I express severe concern on the absolute duplication of the HO/PO timing just like GH2. They need to do their best to make it exactly the same as GH2 for HO and PO's.
Other than that, it all looks grand to me. I can't wait.

http://www.arrogantics.com/2007/05/30/first-videos-of-guitar-hero-3/
Videos are still up. Didn't see them up at IGN.
Okay my response to everything.
Character models look and animate well. IF that is Judy Nails, she has turned into a butterface. Bass player is just as cool as ever. Jimmy Hendrix character looks cool. Venue looks alright, it is all alot of lighting effects that make it look like it is good but when you actually look at the things in the venue not so good.
And the most important part of the game has been totally redone for the worse!
IF IT AIN'T BROKE! DON'T FIX IT.
The fret buttons on the board are all lit up, the actual notes look like someone mentioned before-- "Frets on Fire". At first when I saw the videos I thought it might have been a fake video of Frets on Fire claiming to be Guitar Hero III, but as I watched farther, I saw that the models are background are too good to be created for a free program.
I like the rock meter. Problem is the Star Power meter! What the hell did they do? They turned it into light bulbs! It makes it all the more difficult to determine where my meter is at.
Also the message that pops up looks like a totally dead font choice. It totally doesn't fit what is going on. But I guess it fits the rest of the redesigned stuff. I guess they figured that since they made everything else so crappy, they might as well just chuck out the old fonts.
I hate the design of the score meter. Though I do like the combo meter that pops up. And it isn't as much of a distraction as I thought it could have been.
I am having worries that handing over Guitar Hero to Activision wasn't the best idea. I hope this is the last Guitar Hero. Before it turns into an originally good movie with far too many crappy sequels.
I am not sure what to think of the new guitar. The select button and start button placement are a relief because I would have been angered to get the Xbox 360 version of the guitar. As much as I want to own this one PS3, I might just have to get the PS2 version so I can use my old guitars. _________________

I have no problem with what I saw. The interface looks refreshingly changed to me, the characters are less cartoony, but are still nice caricatyres and pack lots of attitude. I hope the PS2 version will come along nicely as well. The difficulty level should definitely see an increase over GH2 (or spreading the levels), let's see about that. But if the gameplay is like it is on the GH2, then that leaves me with one problem only. I wanted to see open strings. If there was a possibility to redo the gameplay, why not make a small change that will still be feasible with the same controller design. (Yeah, I'm sure there are reasons and I haven't read fully all the GH3 topics, but damn.) _________________

Please Read this, Numerous times. Repeat as necessary.
Guitar Hero 3.
This game is not done, nor is it any where near. As you see in demo's, most videos and previews, a good journalist will tell people that this game is still in early stages and alot of things will still be changed. The graphics, venues, characthers, the HUD, everything will be fine tuned, tweaked, focus tested, focus tested again, and focus tested some more, until we get a good feel, good look, and even better look.
When it comes to the videos on IGN, the audio lag isn't in the actual game, it's a mistake in encoding the videos on IGN's side. Hopefully this will be rectified, and there are *crosses fingers* Much better videos to come. (With me in them ) as IGN is having a 3 day GHIII special.
IGN talking about the "note hit window" It's actually not bad, but is infact getting tweaked still, but testers, developers and the like, we've gotten very good at the game and I feel, being a active Guitar Hero player, the note tracks and songs are amazing, fun and has that same Guitar Hero feel and I've 5 star'd every song on GH1 and 2 (aside from Jordan)
IGN talking about difficulty... could have been MUCH better phrased. The game isn't trying to be all, "God, this game is impossible". The game will still be just as hard as GH1 and 2, but yet more accessible to newcomers as well on easier difficulties. Expert players from the past are not going to come into this game and be like... what the hell this is too damn easy. Trust me, I'm an expert player, I only play expert. And I am one of the very few Note Trackers that work on the songs you will be playing and I make sure my expert tracks (as well as all the other difficulties) are going to be a challenge, but yet fun and playable, to those expert players coming back and newcomers alike. We arn't dumbing the game down, We're just finding a great balance to where everyone, no matter the difficulty in which you play, will have fun. And please, we won't take the Jordan's away from the people that love them. It's honestly become a staple of Guitar Hero gaming.
The setlist is a mutli-layered plethora of everyones dreams and wishlists, and like IGN said, it literally looks like it.
This game is early in development, it still needs quite a bit fine tuning, as any early game does. But come this fall in release, it will be a well polished, well oiled, hard rocking fine tuned machine. Good things are coming. Don't turn your back just yet. Wait till it's release and the final reviews that are released to do that.

Good Lord, this thread is just an emotional roller coaster. I liked what I read about the note counter, althought knowing me, I would look at it, and then miss realizing that I had hit so many in a row. I also thought it would be more distracting but I liked it where it was. I also liked the part about the Coop Career mode. My friends and I were talking about that the other day and I think that would be some ballin shit. _________________
Why does no one talk about Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) when talking about fast strumming? 81 notes at 16 NPS for 2.5 measures? No one's gonna hit that.

Pleeeease...no more Jordan-esque songs. If you ask me, Jordan should be made a new difficulty all its own. In my opinion, adding songs like Jordan takes away from the fun of the game. I still can't pass that stupid song, and it's driving me nuts because that's the only song I can't pass and I can't get five stars on. I don't want songs in there that I won't be able to pass in a year. |

Bonus songs are bonus songs. They are that extra little treat that people get to earn. Not everyone is going to be able to beat Jordan, it's unfortunate. But for those guitar-hero virtuoso's out there, it makes teh game that much better. Songs like Jordan are not part of a main progression for a reason, not everyone needs to be able to beat every bonus song, and the drastic range in diversity has always made Guitar Hero's bonus songs that much more enjoyable, it's what makes the game fun for EVERYONE. |
