My whammy bar broke on one of my controllers, so it no longer sprung back on it's own. When I opened it up, all I saw was a bit of plastic that had broken off. Had the whammy bar been supported by the torsion of a piece of plastic -- or was there some spring that I can't find. I fixed it with a couple of rubber bands hung around the edge of the whammy bar facing the bottom of the guitar and the plastic moldings where the screws go. I secured them well, but I imagining them weaking over time (it already isn't as strong as it was, but functional). Is there a way to fix this that is permanent?
Also, on my other guitar (the whammy nub -- the bar broke off but the springiness was still working so I'm used to whammying with my thumb), the strum bar is beginning to squeak. Do I just need to lube it up? If so, where? I have some silicone lube lying around. |

My bad
it still works fine, I've been using it for months now, just change it every once in a while (like every 3-4 weeks) |

I disassembled the strum bar and lubed it up, so that's no longer a problem. And I guess I won't worry about the whammy bar until the rubber bands give out. |

The plastic thing broke on mine a couple months back aswell, and I took out the spring. Rubber bands worked fine, and still work, I just wrap one end around the whammy bar and then run it around the controller wire and put the other end on the strap holder (under the strap).
I have only had one rubber band break this way (I was stretching it though) |

You have yours outside of the controller? Mine are in the inside. |

Outside is much less of a hassle
takes about 10 seconds to switch rubber bands instead of 10-15 minutes |
