The Freetar Hero game is done. It's in it's beta phase, but it works. |

well Riff has already done it... and he has already posted a good amount of his findings in another thread. There are some videos out of his custom songs.. but he stopped posting any info since then. What I am saying is that using some sort of programming language (C++, VB, Java), somebody could make a program that works like the Freetar editor, but instead of creating their own interface that looks and plays like the game, it encodes it into the MIDI formatting that the actual GH game uses (which Riff broke down very clearly), and then a user could make their own songs, have it turned into the GH compatible MIDI, convert their MP3 to VGS, and then burn a disc with the new, modified GH files (assuming they have a modded PS2).
All in all, a very VERY complex process, but definately doable. I could probably do it.. if I had about 3 months to work on it, and no life otherwise...
a more experienced programmer should be able to put it together in a couple weeks though.... since all the MIDI data has already been compiled and posted. _________________

So you have a way to convert .mp3 to .vgs? The best I could get it to was the ps2 .vga format, I'm not sure yet if that will work. I've also come up against the stumbling block of not being able to get my edited files back into the MAIN_0.ARK file.
I'm no programmer though, so I'm trying to do all of this stuff with programs already out there.
Editing the midi file is easy, I'd rather have a program that did the above two things. |

to get it into the MAIN_0.ARK... you just need to pay the $5 for the Game Extractor prog... it'll do it for you....
as for mp3->.vgs.... i don't have one.. but i'm sure its out there somewhere.. my guess would be to search some of the emulator forums... they would know where to get something like that... _________________

I did pay the $5 for Game Extractor, and it doesn't support saving the guitar hero .ARK format
I emailed the author about implementing it (he put in support for reading the guitar hero .ark format when I asked) but am still waiting for a response. Guess I should have read through the supported games file before buying it.
I tried saving it out as the .ark format that it does support (for some other game) but that didn't work right as far as I can tell.
I've been looking for an .mp3 to .vgs for awhile with no luck, I have a .vgs to .mp3 but that won't work for me here. |

You might want to ask in Antonie's forums here:

He developed the utility. We do not maintain it here. _________________
