Rock Band Technique FAQ

Since people drop me at least 5 PMs a day asking for technique advice, I've decided to make a topic for people to ask me for technique help. All the most frequently asked questions will be answered in this post. If there are any fingering questions, tapping questions not covered in k3v's thread, or anything else, feel free to ask here.

Note: Do NOT ask anything besides technique questions. Examples would be "Why don't you play GHIII?", "Do you play real guitar?", ect. If you have those type of questions, then drop me a PM.

Jordan Passing

Make sure you have a full meter of SP. It's kind of hard to pass the song without it. Try to learn solo A the best you can because if you do well in it, you'll have a full rock meter going into B. For solo B, think of it as a lot of really fast trills. Use only you index and middle fingers, and slide up and down the neck. Make sure you're strumming slower than you fretting or you'll have a lot of unnecessary strums, which hurt your rock meter. If you can make it to the little break in solo B without SP, you're probably in the clear from there when you use SP. Take Solo C into practice mode, so you know what you're up against instead of just seeing random notes. The end of solo C is ascending notes, which are pretty easy to hammer-on if you're fast enough. When you reach the long blue note at the end of solo C, don't freak out, or you might end up failing if you're in blinking red.

Mosh 1

There are 2 possible ways I see to do Mosh 1.

43214321

OR

43213211

Flood!

The way I do Flood! is much different than what other people do, since I believe other people elbow strum it. Here's my fingering. (Note: My old Flood! video, has a completely different fingering than what I used most recently, which is like 3-4 months ago.)

13 121212121 21 23 121212121 21

121212121212121211

It's very difficult to pull this off, since your right hand needs to be dead on in a split second back and forth from strumming to tapping.

Awesome FAQ, I could use this one for Jordan, seeing as I just forgot how to pass it now for some reason >_>

And the TTFAF intro will be a lot of help, now I won't be using strictly my right middle and index fingers to tap and I can help out my ring finger on that blue one. Thanks =D

I've got a question though; How do you build up skill for ascending scales/triplets? I can hit the slower ones, but the quick ones in Solo C destroy my combo/make me fail.

Nice topic. I remember you saying in a previous post that you have great strumming endurance, are there any good ways you know of to build it up?

Strumming endurance is built up just from practicing songs with long fast strumming sections. Try playing Six, TWIE, Misirlou, and other fast picking songs very often, and overtime, your strumming hand will build up endurance.

That's a wierd way to do TTFAF. Tapping every note except green seems a little unessacery. But still you're the pro (and you do LOVE your tapping )

I take it you can do verse 3a-3c, since they are relatively simple. For verse 3d, play everything in the fingering, meaning your index is on the , except for the . which you swap to your pinky on the orange, and swap back to fingering.

For verse 3e, there are plenty of ways to play it.

One hand:

1241241241241241241341341341344

Tapping:

1131131131131131131121121121124

Hand over the fretboard:

3213213213213213214214214214211 Then hit yellow with the middle finger quick, and drop the hold to flip your hand back over.

Tapping Method 2:

1221221221221221221321321321323

For verse 3e, I'll show you my fingering.

11 2 3 4 334 3232123 121121211211211213

LTMR is a good start for keeping equal rhythm. For really fast sections, it's good to anchor the lowest note. Ex: repeating, hold down red and hit yellow and blue.
