Have any of you noticed that during the same song, in an area with the same BPM, you'll do one rewind and it'll go back let's say, 2 seconds, then you do another rewind once you earn it again and you'll go back WAY farther, like 5 or 6 seconds?

Someone posted a comment on my video saying that the more you spin the record, the faster you spin it, the farther you go back. Anyone had the same experience?

Yep. If you spin it back 720+ degrees you get substantially more rewind.

If you push it forward a bit, the spin it back around really fast you'll do a 720 rewind which is substantially longer.

yeah a full rewind gives about the same duration rewind (and double score) as 1 euphoria bar. This helps with pathing.

Are there any advantages to not doing a 720 rewind all the time? It's almost always worth it go far back and potentially hit more notes than only going a little bit back, as far as I can tell.

Advantages to a shorter than 720 is is you pass a part that was REALLY tough and then got your rewind, it'd be nice to use it to get the next rewind activatable and avoid the harder part. Or in my experiences, if you miss any notes in an euphoria path it obviously dies, however, I have successfully rewound to right before the last note and then gotten it.

Thus is the gold of the short rewind

Even so, it's better still for your points to hit the hard part, do a full rewind and do the hard part again. More rewind = more notes in double multiplier, you should always do it.

If you miss under rewind you loose your multiplier. And if I am recalling correctly from playing earlier, you don't rebuild at double, you rebuild at normal.

If you rewind and break combo, you will only rebuild at regular multiplier. But this still gives you the additional notes, which even w/o multiplier are still worth their value***

I'd say it would be useful if you were using rewind to cheat a euphoria, to use a small rewind. This would be MUCH easier to time where you want to get to in the euphoria section.

*** Did you know: If you lose your bonus multiplier in a rewind, dialing your effector during any effector area will return your multiplier bonus for the remainder of the rewind (assuming you don't break combo again)?

I did know the effects dial trick indeedy! I also have started to learn how to count off tics so when I do a rewind, the rewind has an effects pattern in it, and ends right before one, and right after that I tend to use euphoria. So you can get, if you time it right, ~2300 degrees of 8x!

Wow, lots of stuff I didn't know either. I did the 720-rewind once in order to get the achievement, but wasn't aware it actually rewound a further distance.

If anyone knowledgeable wants to compile this information, and test for details such as exactly how far rewinds go, etc., it wouldn't hurt to get some tutorials stickied in here that cover many of these more obscure engine mechanics (in addition to the basics). Perhaps it'd be best to start up a SH wiki page where we can all collaborate.

In any event, after much planning I'm finally getting around to score tracking which should be up in the next day or so!

Yay score-tracking!

As for the rewinds and game mechanics, I can make some videos and study differences that come with the various ways to play the game.

i think the rewinds are misleading because of the difference in scrolling speed for each song. it's hard to tell exactly what's going on, but i think the faster it scrolls and the length of each bar makes some rewinds seems to go back further than others. i also think that sometimes i slow the turntable down slightly before i can get a full 720, causing some rewinds to only register as a 360. that's just my theory.
