We're back! And here's a sweet pic of Brent Burns.

Pretty good deal for the leafs, although theyre probably going to score 1 goal a game from now on haha. I really feel calgary should have gotten more for Phanuef, i mean Stajan and Hagman are 3rd liners on a good team at best.

In the short term, the Flames win, but the Leafs don't care about the short term. This year, White's been the better D-man, and he's really the one guy you wish you didn't have to trade, but talent-wise, there's no doubt that Phaneuf's the better overall player - he just needs to start showing it, and he'll get that chance in Toronto. It hurts to lose Hagman as well, but he's still a second-line player, and his value's been inflated by the fact that there's nobody better at forward for the Leafs. Good riddance to the other two shmucks - they're role players at best. Sjostrom's a good little player too - he's not gonna put up any real point numbers, but he's a feisty, speedy little player, and he'll improve the Leafs' PK right away.

Love the Giguere trade even more. It only made sense that Anaheim would move him, and Burke unloaded Blake's horrible contract in the process. Both deals combine to put the Leafs in good position to go after a solid free agent or two, and perhaps even bring Stajan back if they really want to. They'll also use one of those vacant F slots to give Kadri a look next year. A premier NHL blueliner, a solid #1 netminder, a nice PK specialist, and salary cap clearance - all without moving a single prospect. I'd say that's a hell of a day's work by Burke.

It appears the Flames are expected to trade Olli Jokinen and Brandon Prust to the Rangers for Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins

geez Sutter's trading like crazy, and Sather takes more heavy contracts....how in the world does he handle them all?

That pretty much goes to show you how sour the Flames are on Jokinen - justifiably, IMHO. Kotalik and Higgins haven't been prizes this year by any definition. Kotalik's a good weapon on the PP, but he's one-dimensional, and Higgins is a career underachiever.

Sutter has turned into an idiot the past two days. The trade with the Leafs was ok, however this trade for Kotalik makes no sense.

Taking on 3 million dollars for the next 2 years, and Higgins, who is 4th line plug anymore for Jokinen who has an expiring contract makes absolutley no sense.

I think the CGY/NYR trade is not going to happen, or at least what I can tell it isnt. I know Kotlik doesnt want to waive his NTC so thats a problem obviously.

As far as the Leafs trades, being a habs fan Im not to happy about seeing Big D alot more but whatever I guess. It does give the Leafs two prime-time guys now so thats something to build on, but it leaves them really awful up front now, much worse then before. I know alot of people bashed stajin and hagman and blake but they are going to miss those 3, its like their 2nd line all gone. I know kessel is good, but he isnt crosby.

@Quakmybush I absolutely love your avatar....that goal is so great...I remember the Chicago/Detroit game just this past month and Pavel Datsyuk tried to do the same move....he did score along with a Bertuzzi spin-o-rama goal...but they lost..

Anyway, who else here thinks they need to fire Glen Sather? Honestly that guy is ruining that team with those contracts...that Jokinen trade is so.....bleh...

That was a GENIUS trade of Sather's it saves them a tonne of money next year by getting Kotalik's 3 million dollar cap hit off of his books for next year. Since Olli's contract is expiring, there is no addition money commited to next year, which gives the Rangers 3 million more (what they would of have to spend on Kotalik) for free agents this summer. Sather made out like a bandit on that trade.

beat me to it....interesting trade...just think they got Parise, Kovalchuk, and Brodeur....craziness

I wonder how he'll do in a Jacques Lemaire type system....

I'm actually kinda glad we (Canucks) didn't get him though, he would be awesome to have, but I'd be so afraid what would happen if he was only a rental and didn't re-sign with Van.

Discuss.

Well, that surely sucks. We could have used him. Rumor was that Staal was going to get traded for him. The Pens can't beat the Devils already, this just makes it harder. Guess we'll have to work with what we have, which is still very good obviously.

If the Devils don't win the Cup this year, then they're probably gonna regret this, unless they have another trade up their sleeve that gets Rolston or Zubrus (or both) off their books. They didn't move any salary to Atlanta in the deal, either, and now they have next to no bargaining leverage with him for next year. If they're serious about bringing Kovalchuk back, they can kiss Parise goodbye at the end of next year, and that's a pretty lousy swap in my opinion - there's just no way they can fit all those guys under the cap.

And the deal doesn't even make hockey-sense. To me, there's no other player that's a greater antithesis to Jacques Lemaire-style hockey than Ilya Kovalchuk, and they already have Parise and Elias on the left side (although Elias can play C). Kovalchuk will get his goals, but it's going to come at somebody's expense, and he further exposes an already-suspect blue line.

The suspect blueline isnt too big of a deal when Marty is on his game.

The Devils win this trade by A MILE

they get a top 5 goal scorer in the World, and a half decent defensive prospect (Salmeli, or w/e) and they swap 2nd round picks, which Atlanta's will probably be a better pick than theres.

The only real loss in that trade for the Devils, IMO, is Oduya, Bergfors has tailed off, Cormier is an unstable, but talented player, and they give up a first rounder, which sucks, but the Devils are one of the better drafting teams in the NHL, so they can make up with a later round pick.

I'm just getting so excited for tradecenter 10.
