I'm trying to find some new parts to either do a new build or upgrade my current build.

Here's what I currently have: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gmD7CJ

Here's what I selected a while back as a starting point: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/bd7PQ7

Not sure if these parts are good or where to start looking at additional parts next

I would recommend keeping the same motherboard and sticking with AMD for the CPU and spend that money you save on a better CPU and GPU. I would definitely say maybe get a similarly priced CPU to the one you linked and going for the GTX970. It's kind of expensive, but it's the best power per dollar in the high end GPU space by a long shot right now. And it's like... the second best GPU on the market for only $320. I paid $300 for a mid-high-range GPU 3 years ago and now it's "shit".

I haven't completely decided whether to go with an AMD CPU (from what I remember, their last few CPUs haven't been that great) or going with an Intel CPU. The hardest decisions for me are the CPU, GPU, and Motherboard (to try and have something that will last a while). The case, PSU, and RAM are fairly easy after that
