Hey guys. I have to compete in the Expert finals for my local Best Buy's GH tournament this Saturday. Each contestant gets to pick 2 songs and play one song select by the employees, and we will be judged on score, accuracy, and showmanship. I figure I'll get 400000 or so points on Unsung to impress them scorewise and maybe perfect another song for accuracy. I was just wondering, though, what the hell I should do for showmanship? Dress up like Izzy, play behind my head, play backwards/blindfolded, or something along those lines?
Any ideas would be appreciated. _________________

Play No One Knows. It's much more impressive to the average person than Unsung.
Then, pick the hardest song you think you can FC and do that one.
Showmanship.... find a song that you can do well on without looking, I guess. _________________

I could probably get a FC on Unsung if I practice a little first though. I may only get 280-290K on NOK. Is that really more impressive?
I've been trying Unsung, CFH, and a few others without looking. It's a lot harder than I thought it would be. It's a good thing I have a week to prepare. _________________

No One Knows is much more impressive to watch, although Unsung has the benefit of making an insane score.
If you want an alternate method of showmanship, throw the guitar behind your back and play behind the back. (Bonus points if you can go from normal to that in the middle of the song.) I play like that all the time and it amazes the hell out of my friends. _________________

Thanks for the idea Hylian. I found a comfortable way to twist the strap so I can play normally and switch to behind the back and behind the head with minimal hassle. I might try that in Spanish Castle Magic. It's easy to switch during the chorus (the groups of chords).
Oh, and by the way, I forgot to mention that first prize on Expert is a custom painted SG controller. I don't know much about it as I just read that's what the prize is on the information sheet about the finals, but I'll have more info later. Hopefully some pictures of it come Saturday, too. If I win, that is. _________________

Good luck, not that you need it. Judging by your scores you've pretty much got a lock on a win. _________________

I hope you're right. I got pretty nervous during the first round and my scores somewhat reflected it. I just hope I can get past that in the finals and play like I can at home. _________________

Try getting a bunch of friends to come watch you while you practice at home.. and have them chatting and talking and making comments on your playing, etc.... maybe it'll help you learn how to block everything else out and forget they are there and you can use that when you play in competition. Playing under pressure is tough |

I always thought it was funny how he looks like he's having a seizure when he plays. Steve Vai does the same thing. I probably shouldn't laugh because I've been make stupid faces when I...nevermind...some of you are too young to ruin with that image. _________________

Yeah, I get ya Joker. I imagine I make stupid faces while doing lots of things. So I'm not really worried about the faces I make while GHing. _________________
