I hate expansion. I'm fine with 12 teams.

SOOO pumped for the LSU - Oregon game. Hoping for another Virginia Tech '07 performance. But sadly we still have Jordan Jefferson, and not Matt Flynn.

I don't see why the SEC would want to add more schools. Lately, if you win the SEC you're in the title game. Why would you want to add more teams that have a better chance to beat you than the usual cupcake schools when you're already in a good situation.

Also, add me as an Ohio State fan.

I think the main reasons are:

1. More money, tv markets, etc.

2. To be the first to do it. It seemed pretty likely that either the Pac or B1G would pick up more teams in the near future. This way, Slive is keeping the SEC in control of the situation.

This entire situation has left me with mixed feelings...I'm not sure what to think. A&M has repeatedly said they feel threatened by the Longhorn Network that's starting up, which I also have been back and forth on how to feel. On one hand, I think if every school had the opportunity to have their own network, they would do so. On the other....hrm. I forgot my point and now I can't remember.

What I do know what to think on is that in the latest Big 12 revenue sharing, I don't think it was fair for the schools to all get different amounts of money. Texas gets the most, then OU/A&M get the same amount in 2nd. After that, I don't remember.

I guess this just seems weird...the likelihood now is that the Big 12 is going to die out soon, and I've heard a lot of things about Texas going independant. No one can take them with their current TV deal. They could schedule who they want, but I get the feeling all of their rivalries are going to be gone...Texas and Arkansas are rivals, but they don't play anymore since they're in different conferences, for example.

Big 12 is definitely going to die during the next offseason when other conferences try to keep up with the SEC and pick away the Big 12 colleges.

Also, A&M isn't a done deal yet. It's about a 90% deal, but not written in ink, so don't be surprised if something goes wrong.

Expecting Alabama to finish a 10-2 year, if not 9-3. RB depth is not looking good right now, and even though the WRs are awesome and Bama doesn't rely on a QB like other offensive systems, the new QB (McCarron or Sims, we don't know yet) may be prone to interceptions. My three "watch" games are...

Penn State. New QB making his first starting road appearance in a stadium that will be 100,000+ is NOT good at all. Penn State is also a better team this year. This will be a scrap.

Arkansas. Even with Knile Davis out with an injury, they're still dangerous. This is Petrino we're talking about, and they gave us a pretty good scare last year with Mallett. IMO, this backup has the potential to be WAY better than Mallett if he can cut the interceptions down. Arkansas also has a top 3 WR corps and the defense won't be so abysmal this year.

LSU. Say what you want, but they always play us a good game. Jefferson is the worst QB in the last decade for LSU, but the supporting cast isn't bad at all. If they can figure out that Russell Shepard deserves more than 5 touches a game (AT LEAST 15) their offense can be dangerous and their defense can be as tough as it always is.

I'm expecting a loss to Penn State and LSU right now. This is subject to change, as I haven't seen the team (or PSU and LSU) play yet, but from a preseason point of view, I think we finish 10-2 and get a decent bowl bid.

Just got word that the SEC declined the invite of TAMU, but did not rule out any other inclusions in the coming years. So the Aggies get to stay in the shadow of the Longhorns for another year.

I'm a mid-major guy (mostly because I went to Northern Illinois), and I see the Huskies getting into the MAC Championship game again this year. Of course, our only sure loss is going to be against Wisconsin, but that shouldn't take away from the fact we may have another 10 win season. And on the Big 10 side, I hope Illinois can bounce back after losing a good portion of their starters from last year.

youhas = ScoreHero's resident Stanford fan, once-a-decade episodes of competence from said university notwithstanding.

Stanford looks to have a real legit shot this year tho! Especially with Luck hitting his senior year. Harbaugh may be gone, but god damn is Luck good.

I'm the guy who wants Texas A+M to go to the SEC just to see what kind of chaos unfolds from it all. The Big 12 might die. The Big East could become a hunting ground. The SEC could become a superconference that will never not send a team to a BCS title game.

And I am OK with all of this in the name of chaos.

True, Luck appears to be the real deal. I was eminently impressed with him last year - and sort of surprised he didn't bolt for the NFL - and supremely happy that Stanford managed to pull off a #2 ranking, with the one-and-only loss being to the Oregon juggernaut. Qualified for a top-tier bowl game and won it handily; really can't ask for much more than that.

But I know that Stanford isn't a conventional football powerhouse or anything. They seem to be really big on ebb and flow: cobble together an aces team, which can be a high-flight talent for a year or three; watch the best players graduate, the awesome head coach get poached, and otherwise see the wheels fall off; spend the remainder of the decade sucking in a rebuilding phase until they can repeat the process. I acknowledge this, and I grudgingly accept it, even if it does mean I'm probably steeling myself for another two-win season in 2014 or whatever.

Howdy folks.

I think the Big 12 will be fine as long as Texas stays put. That said, I'm reading some stuff that suggests that Texas' long-term goal is to eventually be independent. Not sure how much weight those reports carry. In the meantime I think the Big 12 can withstand the defections. Oklahoma's the only other team that I think could make a serious dent in the Big 12's lifeline, but how likely is OU to leave a conference they've won like six times in the last decade?
