Just a notice for anybody wondering where I am, I haven't played any guitar/bass in a while, mostly vocals. But this month is busy for me (concerts, choir, etc) so finding time to play at all is tricky. That's it. Good week all!

So, today, I finished a project I started ten long years ago. I finally finished organizing my music collection. Ironically, it happens right about the time I get my Freebird post which is cool, but I wasn't quite done then, and that post felt it needed it's own spot. So, back when GH2 came out, I played it and was a big fan. However, while I had a reasonably large music collection, I found my collection was it restricted to a very narrow couple of genres of music after comparing it to GH1/2. I owned a 200 disc CD changer, and approximately 400 CDs. But, with playing GH2, I realized there was a lot more music types out there other than Alternative, Metal and Industrial. As such, I decided to set about rectifying that issue. This was a many step operation.

1) I took all my CDs, ripped them at 128kb (space was an issue back then), and begged and borrowed CDs from most of my friends and family, ripping their discs as well.
2) Deciding I still didn't have enough music, I also got all of their digital collections and added them all to a great big pile once I got my first 500 GB drive.
3) At this point I was starting somewhere in the neighborhood of about 250,000 tracks, many of which were duplicates, incomplete, partial tracks, or the like. The next step was to pare down that number to a more workable and more or less unique number.
4) Having arrived at roughly 100,000 songs, I now started the really long process of 7 years or so of actually playing through all said music, deleting those tracks I didn't want, removing further duplicates or songs with errors, and the like. This left me with about 18,000 tracks.
5) Now, eight years into the process, I further went through and realized my musical tastes had changed over the years, and I further whittled away until I had a pretty diverse but very enjoyable list of approximately 10,000 tracks.
6) Next came the big challenge of fixing the tracks I had with the correct artist, track name, and in many cases album names for the tracks I had. While doing this I fixed or got rid of incorrect track info or deleted still more duplicates or covers that I didn't want. Further, I went and reripped all my CDs I owned at 320kb, greatly improving the quality.
7) Having finally accomplished this task, I decided to go the next route and get album artwork for all my music. I used 3rd party programs, but mostly had to do the last 25% manually, as either I had the wrong album name, it was an obscure album (some early 2000s techno, etc) or didn't really come from an album at all. This also served to mostly fix the album information and further allowed me to get rid of incorrect info.
8) Having arrived at a reasonably accurate artist/album/artwork list, I decided about a year ago to double check my music by having the correct year and track information for each track. For this, Discogs, Wikipedia and Google are your friends.
9) I finally finished that last week, further allowing me to correct track info, album info or artwork info that was incorrect and to finally give me the right year for each track, even going so far as to look up the original years on collections and greatest hits, etc.
10) Finally, this week, I went through and fixed incorrect genre information, and broke up the super large genre of Rock/Pop into Classic Rock, Easy Listening, Rock/Pop (still), Hard Rock and Gothic Rock. This concluded the process.

Over time, I have also added some music to my original starting point, now giving me just over 10,500 tracks. It has been a very long process, and by doing it I not only got a sense of completion and accomplishment, but learned a lot about tracks/albums/artists that I may never have done otherwise. I also gained a much greater appreciation of music in general, and realized that my musical taste, while obviously unique, is pretty far ranging compared to most. To give you an idea, the genres I have include: 60's, 70's, 80s's, acapella, acoustic, alternative, anime, appalachian, bagpipes, bluegrass, celtic, christian rock, christmas, classic rock, classical, comedic music, comedy, country, crossover, disco, dubstep, duets, easy listening, electronica/dance, emo, folk, funk, game, gothic metal, gothic rock, grunge, hair metal, hard rock, indie, industrial, instrumental, irish, jazz and blues, jpop, latin, lounge, metal, new age, new wave, oldies (pre-60s), operatic rock, parody, polka, progressive rock, punk, RnB/Soul, Rap/Hip-Hop, Reggae, Renfaire, Rock/Pop, Showtunes, Ska, Soundtracks, Southern Rock, Techno, Trance, and TV Themes. In short a bit of everything really.

While I cannot expect everyone to like my musical taste in full, I typically have music that just about anyone can really get into. I recommend going through a similar journey to anyone, albeit it maybe with a smaller starting point. I do not promote piracy, but having personally bought over 500 CDs, 400 DVDs and 100 Blu-rays for my collection I feel I have paid my fair share over the years in royalty rights. Guitar Hero and Rock Band helped me realize there was a lot of different and very good music out there, and without those series I would probably never have discovered half of it. If you made it this far, congrats.

geez man, I would have given up after 3 months lol good thing I did all of this right at the beginning. I did ripped everything (315+ cds) and sold everything after that at a huge loss, they were mostly collecting dust anyway (remember the 20$+ price tag for a cd era ? yeah....) Music was huge in my life when I was between 16-20 years old but when I sold my car that had a pretty nice car stereo system, everything fell apart and I pretty much stopped listening to music actively and seriously.

Today I listen to music alot more but I dont buy anything and go the Spotify route. Much cheaper and much easier to find an artist/track. and if I dont find it, which is very rare, I'll just go download it.

I've honestly never tried to buy CD's just for one or two songs because I feel that's way too expensive no matter how much I like them, but at the same time I've never felt too trustful of using stuff like Spotify to get my music from. Which is a shame because I'd love to have CDs full of my favorites from each GH/RB game (except for GDRB since I have Dookie, Idiot, 21st and Warning and don't care enough for Insomniac and Nimrod just for Hitchin' a Ride, Time of Your Life or Geek Stink Breath). It'd really fill out y Cd library for my car so I have more to listen to while I'm driving since I'm usually either playing guitar hero or watching non-music videos at home so the car is the only real place I can listen to music. And I have plenty of CDs to burn to, but as I said just not the will to go out and look for them.

Commendable effort, though, Bushi!

Leaderboards are up to date for today, 10/23/2017, enjoy. This update was very quiet again, with only skinnywhitecomic updating to save the day. Skinnywhitecomic gained 43,410 points on Expert, good enough to move him from 10th to 8th, very nice work. Amazingly, only 373k seperates him from 5th place on the list, so he still has room to advance, 93 million+ might be a bridge too far though. Great work from skinnywhitecomic, lets hope for any other action next update.

As for me, work, Diablo3, pool? The pool situation has not been resolved, as I have not been able to get the wife to actually discuss it. We have a few options as I outlined before, and I have no real clear indication of which she prefers, hopefully we can discuss it this week as the pool REALLY needs to be closed either way. Work has been busy lately, getting in the last machines we were expecting, and repairs to devices that I had out, bringing my machine totals to maximum for both sites, very cool. Nothing hard, just easy day to day stuff. Diablo3, Season 11 ended, they have a two week break until Season 12. The big patch should hit this week, greatly boosting a lot of the favorite builds, which should be interesting. I finished the seasonal transition, finished getting all my gems to 70 or 76, and swapped in new gear. I just have left trying to push with each build before the patch to compare before and after. Beyond that, its waiting to see what they have planned for Season 12, and if I care. I have pretty much maxed out 6 of the 7 classes at this point and have pretty amazing gear for each. Not sure what more I could hope to do other than repeating stuff. That's it for this update, until next time.

Dude, I think 373k is a bridge too far. I just finished Re-FCing Metallica. Did 40 songs. The rest are songs that are too hard and/or will not net me a lot more points. So, aside from a War Ensemble FC, Metallica is essentially done.

And unfortunately, I can't do much else for points. I don't have World Tour, Van Halen, Smash Hits, or Band Hero. So, the only points I can get would be from WoR. Which, depending on how well I do with WE for the next two months, I may do. We'll see.

Leaderboards are up to date, for today, 11/06/2017, enjoy. Another slow update on the bass side, once again saved by the heroic efforts of skinnywhitecomic. On Expert, skinnywhitecomic managed another 35,445 points, but he thinks he is pretty tapped out at this point, so maybe he can pass Undead for 7th? That was it, again on the bass side, things are quiet here. Lets hope for more next time.

As for me, pool, work, Diablo3. Work has been very quiet, almost too quiet, so I have spent a fair time going through my music and making new playlists. The pool is getting closed this week, yet we still haven't come to a decision on what we are doing with it. I have to cover it, etc, to prevent bugs and such, but it seems weird with less than a foot of water. Diablo3, I figured out that the UE MS build is my most efficient one, so I have been farming GR90 to push my gems up to 91 each. I likely will not finish that before season starts on Thursday. For S12, I will play barb as the IK set is fun, and likely will finish season really fast. After that who knows. That will get me one more portrait frame, and then I will have unique ones for each character, 14 different ones which is pretty cool. Other than that, nothing new on my end, have a good one.

Leaderboards are up to date, for today, 11/27/2017, enjoy. We had action for this update on Easy and Medium bass, I guess skinnywhitecomic took a vacation. Starting over on Easy, we had sjay go crazy on the Grand Total board and amass 3,665,560 points, moving him clear up to 3rd overall. For Medium, it was sjay again, also on the Grand Total board with 1,010,185 points and moving up to 6th for his troubles. That was all for bass this update, sjay gets the nod by default, and seems to be running out of scores to enter on the bass side, nice work!

As for me, Diablo3, thanksgiving, work. Work has been pretty quiet, and I even took off two days last week to give me a full week off. Thanksgiving, I got to celebrate with my mom, little sister, aunt and uncle from nearby and their kids, and aunt and uncle from Wisconsin, plus my grandmother. Day after Thanksgiving we did with my wife's parents, which was nice. Then on Saturday, had a big potluck friendsgiving. I have eaten enough for a family last week. Diablo3, wiped out the requirements for Guardian in a single week. I am at 715 paragon after 18 days, and cleared a 86 solo, just grinding gems up, and may be done after that point. Pretty quiet on my front, I left the laptop at work during my mini vacation, so had to wait until today to post. Until next update.

Whoops, forgot to add PinkiePie91 to my Expert Bass board. Putting in his info gives me 11th place at 90,725,879 points, and 2nd at 109,893,794 points on the Overall. I will fix that next update.

Since I was reuploading the Expert Guitar, I uploaded the Expert Bass that reflects Pinkie's huge jump as well, enjoy.

Leaderboards are up to date, for today, 12/14/2017, enjoy. We had a very quiet update this time, with Pinkie out of commission, its back to just skinnywhitecomic. Skinnywhitecomic gained another 93,534 points on the Expert board, moving him up to 7th, ahead of Undead, congrats to him He has another possible spots he could overtake in my opinion, in drama and xXGHXx, for a total of 250k more, but after that the points will be very hard to come by indeed. Thanks again to skinny for making the update worthwhile, he gets the nod by default. Lets hope for more (any) action next update.

As for me, work, Diablo3, holidays. Work is its usual quiet state for this time of year, with teachers just inputting grades and counting down until the two week break. Diablo3, I am playing about 1-2 hours a day, to continue grinding the gems. By playing so little, it feels a lot less like work, and retains its fun qualities. At this point, its mostly waiting until season ends, finish augmenting gear, setting new records, and deciding if I care about season 13. The only class I have not fully played out is wizard, but that seems to be it. Holidays, I will be travelling to Jefferson City to spend Christmas with my mother (hint void), and then the awesomeness at my place that are the New Years festivities. Until next time.

Leaderboards are up to date, for today, 01/04/2018, enjoy. We had action Medium and Expert Bass, pretty standard. For Medium, it was sjay, with 2,807,405 points, moving clear up to 3rd overall, very impressive. For Expert, it was skinnywhitecomic, with 250,248 points, moving up to 5th place, but a loooong 1 million points from 4th. Great work to both of you, I will give the nod to sjay for most points gained. Lets hope the next update is better.

As for me, things were pretty nice since the last update, Holidays, Diablo3 and that's about it. Had a great Christmas, saw most of my extended family and all the joy that goes with that. New Years was pretty epic, three days, and 42 guests, with a keg of Guiness for this year. Diablo 3 I finished all my seasonal goals, all gems to 70, augments, relevel gems, tried all the sets, hit 1000 paragon, and pushed greater rifts, and managed to clear a 96. Decent season, with about a month to go. Not much else to report for this update, enjoy.

Leaderboards are up to date, for today, 01/16/2018, enjoy. We had a pretty quiet update, with the only changes for Hard and Expert Bass. For Hard, it was sjay, with 213,955 points, all on the Grand Total column, just shy of passing DrSham for 9th there. Expert had about the same, with skinnywhitecomic adding 84,921 points, but he may be close to being tapped out finally. Great work from both of you, I will give you a joint nod for the update, being my two reliable bass users. Lets hope for more of the same next update.

As for me, work, Diablo3, and cold weather. Work was a fairly nice easing back into things last week, nothing stressful, and we have PD today, so also quiet. The weather is super cold for us, with - temps this morning, not fun. Diablo3, I continue to work on my goal of level 100 gems on all my non season characters, and I helped the wife get guardian for the first time ever. This season was really easy, so her total play time is 18 hours, impressively low for a guardian season. I will be hosting a Lord of the Rings Extended Edition marathon this Saturday, should be fun. Until next time.
