Hi everyone, the console xLan tournament here in Auckland finished just over a month ago. Here is the writeup from Tt.GIGA about the event!

Tt.GIGA was out loud and proud at Auckland's 2011 xLAN. Mason “massi4h” Maddox returned to centre stage with plans to shred up the competition, starting with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. The path to the top wasn't easy though against rivals “Omikron” and “Rudeism”, the latter being the literal Guitar Hero of the 2010 xLAN.

As the lan flooded with rock music punctuated by the trademark rackity clack Guitar Hero hammering massi4h comfortably took the lead in the round robin stage. Defeating everyone 2-0 barring rival Omikron who required a tie breaker take down. Moving into the final 8 double elimination stage massi4h's hot streak almost faltered against Dobo in the semi's when he drew his worst song, Calling. Massi4h was quick to bounce back, taking the next two songs then powering all the way through into the grand final.

Here there was another showdown between massi4h and Omikron, which kicked off to massi4h's dismay with Calling being randomly drawn once again. The tables turned in the next song, Ravenous, massi4h utilising his unique one handed tapping method in the slider note solo. His pace only picked up from there in the final tune, Black Widow of la Porte, with a landslide victory of nearly 100,000 points.

Massi4h also had plans to dominate the beat 'em up games at xLAN. Dominating the Marvel vs Capcom 3 winner's bracket, he dueled Pinolicious in the grand final.

“...we both knew his only way to win would be to use the most overpowered character in the game: Phoenix. ...I won the first game by snapping her in early and finishing her off before she could turn into Dark Phoenix.”

After winning Marvel vs Capcom 3 massi4h placed 2nd in Super Street Fighter IV, defeated in the grand final by Tt.GIGA teammate Andy “Zosla”. Zosla's Fei Long/Akuma/Yun proved too strong for massi4h's Sakura/Akuma/Sagat.

“Through some bad counter pick choices and Zosla being the superior player I lost the Grand Final.”

Not content with leaving things there massi4h rounded out the day by scoring 3rd place in the Tekken 6 tournament, which he admits he doesn't play that much but when he does favours Alisa as his character of choice.

Also here is an interview of me at the PC xLAN a couple weeks prior to the console xLAN.

Huge congrats! Good to see there's at least someone still interested in competitive GH.

Thanks man. Looks like it's pretty much dropped off the radar now though. Meant to be a biggish comp, end of last month, but no-one really prepared that well and we couldn't find time to run it. I was busy playing fighting games while most of the others were in Halo/COD.
