Was walking from my car to the local drinkery last night and signs on the door of this bar, Bill Pickle's Tap Room, caught my eye. Advertised on the door was:
"Coming in September!
Weekly Guitar Hero Tournaments
Sunday and Monday nights, midnight (or after NFL)
Bracket play, single elimination"
That was pretty much the gist of it. I had to like the "Coming in September" part, which means they've already been going on without my knowledge, which isn't the type of thing that really surprises me. Seeing as they're going on every week, twice, I'm guessing the prizes are not of especially heightened value or prestige, but I'm sure respect is at stake, and a whole fucking lot of it. Well, or receiving drunken shouts of "STAAR POWERR! DOO IT!!!1" is probably more likely.
But hey, if that's your thing (and you're 21+) and I sure as hell know it's mine, here you go. It's no RedOctane tournament but I'll take what I can get, and cheap beer too.

God I cannot wait for those tourneys. I just 89% bark at the moon with a 4* after eight beers so I figure I should dominate this tournament. I can';t type about it now. I can't type period! Sorry, for my drunken antics, Scoerhwero!!! Except for theKovinc, he's always drunk!!! _________________

1) I'm sober right now
2) My spelling and grammar is better after 15-20 beers than yours after 8.
3) I don't understand why you entered me into that post... |
1) Ok, fine.
2) Prove it.
3) Your drunken posts are gold. I just wanted to give you the proper recognition there. That's all. _________________

Ha, it's alright, you don't have to if you'd rather not. I don't really often drink a ton (hence the rapid-fire posting tonight) but I'd be interested in what it's like for the elite players after a few drinks. Hell, I bowled my 2nd-best game after five beers tonight, so I figure a great GH session can't be that far off, right?? _________________

empty, check this out and let me know how the tournaments are. I may have to drive out to Happy Valley if they're decent. I'm due for a visit out there to see some old friends anyway. |

Will do. I'm going to the one tomorrow night to get a feel for it so expect an update and hopefully a success story here Monday morning.
I really have no idea what kind of players will show up, but in a college town with probably 20,000 people between 21-24, I've gotta figure there are a few nuts like us that'll show up. _________________

Well, the dicey thing about this tournament is that it's at a bar, so that eliminates half the undergrad population, at least the ones without fake IDs. I'm figuring there are a handful of elite under-21 players that won't be able to participate, which kinda sucks. On campus though, there's "Late Night Penn State" which is basically tons of games and activities on weekends at our student union building intended for those who don't want to drink. They've had DDR and NCAA06 tournaments before, so I'm wondering if I should get them to have a GH tournament. That way, everyone who wanted to could play. _________________

So apparently by the sign stating "Bracket Play," it meant "Whoever wants to get in line and fail a song on Medium has the chance!"
My roommate, girlfriend and I were the only ones that played anything on Expert (no one even tried Hard), and it inspired lots of "Holy Shit!"s and gasping, so it wasn't as much of a tournament as it was an exhibition. Kinda depressing, since it was basically not even close to what it was advertised as. Time just about stood still in the bar when I stepped up and 98%'d Crossroads on Expert , so I guess that was kinda cool. Probably the best reception I've ever gotten in my life, which is pretty sad. Still wish I could go to an actual tournament though... _________________
