|

ok I'll put pics up when I'm off the phone and I can text them to my e-mail. But you can make yourself a starpower pedal with speaker wire, an old computer mouse and some duct tape. Its not pretty but it does work.
All you have to do is take the speaker wire and cut it to whichever length you want mine is about 5 feet long. Connect the wire to the circuit board in the guitar where the select buttons wires meet the circuit board. There is a picture of where to do this in the guitar mods thread btw LOOK AT IT CLOSELY it shows exactly where to connect the wires. To connect the wire I made little loops around the nodes(sorry if thats not the correct term its the lump of solder to be more exact) and then used a very small amount of duct tape to keep them secure.
After the wire is connected to the circuit board place your finger over the area that was just connected and pull the wire slightly taught and then wrap the wire around a screw post, this will prevent the wire from moving around in the guitar. Go for a screw post towards the whammy bar because this pulls the wires away from the start button on the circuit board. IF the wire touches this well then your start button won't function. Now test to see if the wires are connected properly.
Boot the game up and skip the video with the start button (to test to make sure that still works lol) then at the start screen where it says hit any button touch the the exposed ends of the speaker wire together to complete the circuit. IF it goes to the main menu your golden. If the start button doesn't function remove the duct tape and re-position the speaker wire make sure it isn't touching the third node, then re-duct tape it. (again a picture of the innards of the guitar is in the guitar mods thread you will know what I mean by third node)
Pull the loose end of the speaker wire underneath the cable that connects the controller to the ps2 then place the back of the guitar on. Next take apart your mouse and with the same exact procedure used to connect the wires to the guitars, connect the wires to one of the mouse button nodes. These nodes will be right underneath the switch that activates the button, you will see them.
Test the controller again except this time hit the mouse button to try and get to the main menu. Again if it works your golden re-assemble your mouse and there you have it a foot pedal for star power. IF it doesn't work try moving the wires to different nodes in the mouse until the button functions, I didn't have this problem so I don't even know if it exists lol. |

This shows where the speaker wire comes out of the guitar.
This is the entire package, like I said its ugly but it works. Pink duct tape is optional lol (its all I had at home, why I don't know)
I did my best to explain how to do it but if there are any Q's feel free to ask. O and sorry for the terrible pic quality my camera is out of commission. |

Broke ass college kid right here, made it out of stuff I had laying around for that reason.
The original pedal was gonna be a tap-light but the switch was distinctly on and off soo I would have had to click it twice to turn select on then back off. |

Its pretty straight forward you shouldn't have any problems with it. |

Could you use a stomp box rather than a mouse? Just checking _________________

Stomp box as in like a distortion pedal? Yeah it can be use anything that will complete the circuit with a press will work. However I don't exactly know how you would wire it. Yet if your gonna use a pedal you might as well go the whole 9 yards and solder in a nice input jack and connect it all with a guitar cable (again see the guitar mods thread they show ya how haha). I plan on doin that once I get time and borrow the tools, o and get a distortion pedal haha. |

I made something similar to this. I soldered on wires to the right spots on the circuit bored and wired it up to a real guitar jack that I drilled a hole for in the guitar. I bought a cheap (but real) pedal from an online music store. Here is my problems with it and I want to know if it's only happening on my setup.
a) Tilting does not activate star power
b) Select no longer activates star power (and I don't understand why not)
c) For some reason, star power goes off when I release the pedal and not when I push it in ??? (no idea why)
Anyone have any idea why I'm getting such odd effects? Question b and c are the ones I care about most and understand the least. Pushing select would still complete the circuit so why wouldn't it still let star power go off? |

Well depending on where you soldered the wires from the pedal to the circuit board to, sounds to me your pedal is wired to be constantly closed until you press it and then the circuit is opened. _________________

Nice! I'm gonna try this sometime.
I need to clear up a couple of things though...
1. Where do you get the speaker wire?
2. When you connect the speaker wire, is it a direct connection from the circuit board to the mouse?
3. How is it connected to the mouse?
Thanks for any help! |
