I think it's illegal to upload a file from a game and then redistribute it. On second thought, it is illegal to do that. We'll just have to wait for Sunday when all the masters of the software forum have the game and see what they come up with.

PAK files are an old archive, dating back to Quake II. It's possible it's just an updated version.

apparently the .pak is not a standard format, lots of different pc game developers use it but they use different formatting, but it looks like the general consensus is that the pak files contain most of the sounds/images/things like our milo_ps2 files contain.. so you might be on the right track, we just need to get something that can open this particular format of archive.. know of any other neversoft built games that make use of their .pak files? We may be able to use something like that.. who knows..

.pak tends to be used by id which do Quake/Doom, normally to open the simply renaming to .zip would work, probably won't in this case but worth a try

I just have to say this:

The game has LBA checks. If the game is even 1 byte smaller or bigger than the original, it won't boot. I think it might take a while for someone to crack it, and I think it's illegal too. No more customs for GH3.

It has this for the PS2 archive? How do you know this?

Yeah, PS2. A friend of mine bought the game and played around with it, the game just doesn't go past the first loading screen if something is changed.

So, I'm not entirely convinced by that explanation, however, bypassing it by using a dummy file to pad the archive (assuming we shrink it) as to have the exact same size down to the byte is out of the question because?

That might work, unless there are file size checks or something like that. Why would they make hacking that hard though? Maybe Neversoft doesn't like their games being edited, I don't know.

Actually, LBA checks are bypassable.
Just use Game Graphic Studio(google it!) and inject the SMALLER file in the ISO that you read from the disk(don't copy files and rebuild)
So, in theory, if you replaced all the files with ones smaller, it would boot.
Had to do this when I modded "Bully" for the PS2.

This is all based on the assumption that the LBA check actually exists... But it's inconclusive to say that it exists based on "a friend who played around with it".
