I can't stand that little clicking noise. It's drove me nuts since day one of GH. I've done this on my 2 SGs and Xplorer. The Les Paul is no different when it comes to the buttons under the strum bar.

I'll post the old pics of when I did this to my SG later.

I can now also confirm that a T10 Torx will work on all the screws on the Les Paul. It is a little loose in the neck screws but like I said, if that bothers you just use a 3/32 Allen. Also an actual T15 Torx will not work on the nexk screw, too large. The one I had working was a bit that came with small screw driver set.

QUICK INFO:

T10 Torx for the screws on the Les Paul.

Same type of buttons under the strumbar allow the "clickers" to be removed for a quieter strumbar.

P.S.
Best Buy still has the 0.01 cent Sex Pistols faceplates. Picked up 5 myself today. They also have these neat little keychains of the Les Paul for $2 bucks and the moneys goes to charity on them.

If you are going to do this pay attention and read all the way through before getting started. Also be advised this will require the removal(or only partial removal if your good)of the Warrenty Void sticker on the Les Paul.

This is currently known to work(by me)on black GH1 SGs, red GH2 SGs, 360 GH2 Xplorers and 360 GH3 Les Pauls.

Pics and instructions:

Here is what you will be looking at once you've cracked open your Guitar Hero controller, be it SG, Xplorer or Les Paul, and have removed the four screws that hold the strumbar button board to the controller case and removed the "cage"(also held in place with four shorter screws)around the buttons.(Black GH1 SGs won't have the "cage")

PIC 1:

Once you pry the two tabs back carefully, you can then carefully pull the top half of the button case up and off. This is what it looks like without the button and upper button case.

PIC 2:

You will then be looking at these four parts once you remove them.

PIC 3:

Your going to be taking out the clicker, it's not needed for anything other than to make noise. You can now put it all back together.

When putting the upper half of the button case back on make sure you put it back on the way it came off. Not doing so can easily cause the small tab(seen in PIC 3 next to the spring)to be bent. Thus causing the button to not work properly, i.e. barely making contact with the contact point or not at all or making contacet at all times.

This is really pretty easy to do. But should be done with caution since the tab is made of brass which is very malleable.

Like I stated at the beginning of this post, as far as I know this works on Black GH1 SGs, Red GH2 SGs, 360 GH2 Xplorers and 360 GH3 Les Pauls. I haven't seen the guts of a PS2 wireless, any of the 3rd party/independant controllers, Kramer, PS3 & Wii Les Pauls or any other guitar controller made to work with Guitar Hero. But if they have the same strum bar buttons this should work on them too.

Anyways, hope someone finds this useful.

P.S.
I'm not responsible if you suck and trash your guitar. Some feel this is more difficult than it really is. If my shaky hands can manage to do this(several times too)anyone should be able to. None the less don't come crying to me if you fuck things up.

P.S.S.
Played the Rock Band demo at Best Buy today and boy talk about brilliant thinking on Harmonix's part. Strum bar is completly quiet and much smoother. For me that alone makes the Strat miles better than any GH guitar I've used.

Use a sharp(or relatively sharp)knife to slip inbewteen the clips and case. Once in just use your fingernail to hold it back then use the knife on the other side to do the same but leave the knife in. Then with your free hand gently wiggle the case up and off.

A small pocket knife, a decent small kitchen knife, an Xacto knife or other type of small knife will do just fine. Basically any type of tool that has a knife like edge used for prying will do. Some people may find it possible to get their fingernails inbetween the clip and case.

From my experience the clips vary on strength. Also the more you pry back on them to take apart and put back together the buttons, the weaker they(the clips)will get.

i'm white and have no rhythm, so the clicker actually HELPS me play better.

(by matching up the clicks to the music i get my strumming right)

i used 2 flat head screw drivers, just wedge em in there, twist them so the clips don't catch and lift the housing out with the screw drivers.

I can get the clips out fine, but the thing won't come out! Have been trying for hours.. Oh, it's on the kramer. Any advice?

EDIT: Managed to do it on the red sg, but still not on the kramer. I have tried so much, the clips on one button doesnt go back in position.. =/ It's really really annoying since I like to play without the clicking.

My clicker actually stopped working of it's own accord a few weeks ago... it makes me nervous now when I am playing because I am so used to the noise. I expect it to fail me at any moment!
