The microswitches were mounted on a new circuit board.

Let me see if I can dig out the schematics for you.

holy hell that is one sweet mod!!

i would be up for this! if you post a schematic... I will probably only use regular LEDs though, not your super blinding beasts ..lol....

If i just want the fret LED mod and the strum light mod, is the PIC needed? Or do i only need this if i want to be abvle to select different modes?

I think you could do the strum and LED lights without a PIC if you set them to ONE mode, such as blinking in rythm on and off. Mine have various modes in software, such as constant glow from the strum bar etc, that I can combine, but if your willing to give that up (and the tapping buttons), I think you could do it with just wires and lots of bilatteral switches.

Would you be able to show how the bilateral switches, frets, and LEDs are all wired together? I read your post about it and have a rough idea but I don't want to damage anything in the process.

Didn't see it mentioned yet, so just thought I'd note that this mod is on Hack A Day today:

Congrats, awesome controller mod.

Awesome! Too bad RO can't make a quality guitar like that :P

Is it possible to see a close up picture of the fret buttons? I'm really intrigued by them. I'd pay anything to get my crappy ones replaced. They were custom built right? So I doubt I’d be able to pull anything like that off…

watched the video, could not figure out what lit up the pickguard. i noticed hitting the frets lit them up. Surprised that USB has enough power for all those lights. I'd expect caps in there so as not to suddenly suck up all that juice from the USB, but to drain the caps.

But then again, i'm not an electrical engineer

... that's why i wanna go to carnegie mellon ^^

Posting schematics after the weekend (Grand master pimp has promised to clean them up) and you should be all set after that.

It's the strum that lights up the pickguard, and you are right. No way in hell the USB can provide the kind of juice the diodes require. The're being run of a Li-Po battery.

With the micros? Oh man... I haven't a clue. All my hard work so far and I have one molded red button. I'm really starting to like the idea of the micro switches. As for the LEDs I really don't know how I'm gonna wire it so that it lights when it's pressed. If I can figure how to tap into the circuit for the individual frets I'd be set.
