Two words...

Scrolling tablature!

If you havent heard of VGSPlayer yet, its a program that lets you watch the GH songs play on your PC. It also includes a click track, a loop mode and a slow motion control.

Wow!

I was completely amazed by your previous version. This is unbelievable, excellent work!

Btw, did you get my email regarding the score optimizing program I'm working on?

I just read you are currently working on SG input for live practice.

If we combined our knowledge we could design a true simulation of the game with its scoring. My program processes a song's data and outputs the optimal places to use star power to maximize score.

In addition to allowing controller input for practicing, your program could contain an option to "play the song optimally" using data from a file containing the optimal path which I would generate. This would show people the best way to play a song (when to use star power, and which notes to hit early and late to squeeze under star power) and the highest possible score. Also, if you had a point indicator then people could pause the song at any point to see the optimal score at any particular time (so they could try to match this score in the actual game).

All the score processing with multipliers, holds, star power usage and optimal path searching I've already got implemented in an ugly console app. It'd be truely remarkable to incorporate this logic into your simulator.

Let me know what you think.

I have avoided scoring and star power in my app so far. Its not my intention to completely emulate the game. My primary focus has been in providing users with a way to practice the hard parts and commit them to memory.

I could try plugging your algorithm into my program to mark the optimal places to activate star power though.

I just want to give my thanks to the makers of this wonderful program.

bd bd bd

Those are supposed to be thumbs up by the way.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to use the information I learned from the program to settle something with the Cowboys from Hell.

The link goes to v1.1b for me. I looked around, even tried editing the link to the zip file to read v1.2 but I got a 404.

Where is the v1.2?

JCirri,k rimsunmunkeys:
Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

MaximusDM:
Weird. The link shows up correctly on all the computers I have accessed it from... I have seen odd caching behavior before where I had to force it to refresh the page or it would just display the previous version even days after I did the update. hmm. ill look into it.

Wow!

I know you have stated that you don't plan on making an entire emulation, however I have been long hoping for a full emulation if for nothing other than user created songs. This brings that hope much closer to reality!

Very nice work, can't wait to see it evolve.

is it possible for VGS Player to show how many notes there are in a song? in a future update i mean. it would make finding the 4 and 5 star cutoffs a bit easier, what with the algorithm thats elsewhere on the forums

It wouldn't make it that much easier because almost all the songs have holds.
