This is the right schedule? If so that means we actually have 5 weeks if we start to work on it right way.

Also, somehow managed to come up with something this week, will be sending it shortly. Now just the expectation to view last weeks results and the examples for the final round so I can start working on it.

I've got mine done, just going to wait to see the critique on last weeks so I can fix any problems.

Well, I'm gonna send mine in now.

I went a bit over 2 pages and have been trying to reduce it as much as I can. I hope you guys don't mind if it's still a few lines past 2 pages I just hate to take anything else out for fear of leaving out anything important.

Can't wait to see the results for week 3 posted. I never even got an idea for that, so I'm excited to see what crazy stuff others came up with.

Week 3 results will be posted shortly, not going to commit to tonight since both of us are fairly busy, but they will be up soon.

I've dug up some examples to help you guys put together your big Design Overview document.

First up is a real design document for a game called Play With Fire; you can find it here. Notice that the document is available for download in Microsoft Word format as well. This is a full design document; it is not required to go into the intricate detail that is displayed (such as the front end), but it should be a great reference.

Next is a sample design doc written by Gas Powered Games' Chris Taylor, it does a good job of explaining all of the potential items that can be put into a game design doc.

The original website is here.
The Microsoft Word doc is here.

Take note that both of these go into great detail about EVERYTHING in the game, please only detail out the most important aspects of your game, knowing about the soundtrack may not be necessary.

Also, there are no sure-fire templates for a game design doc, everyone does it a bit differently, so feel free to alter and adjust these to fit your tastes.

Good luck everyone, feel free to discuss your docs or ask questions here!

Whoo, missed last week's submission. Hell of a week at work plus a get-together that I didn't want to cancel. Don't think I was going to beat out rkcr anyways though!

I didn't submit for last week either. I'm glad we have a long time to work on the final design document though.

Week 3 results are finally up! I am sooooooo sorry for the delay, any amount of excuses can't make up for it, though you may notice that Kaiser did not participate in this week's critiques. I'll let Kaiser give the word on what happened if he feels up to it since it isn't my place to divulge his personal info, I'm hoping he'll be able to chime in on the final submissions though.

Week 4 critiques are supposed to go up today, I'll let you guys guess how likely it is that'll happen, but I am going to bust my ass and try to get them done tonight or tomorrow.

I hope everyone finds the time to write-up a full design overview for the final round, a month should be plenty and each person that has submitted something so far has at least one game that I would love to see fleshed out further. But don't let the critiques or scores dictate which one you do; you'll have a much easier time fleshing out the design that you really like.

Good luck everyone!

Yeah guys, sorry that I didn't end up getting anything in. I feel really bad about it, but I definitely had the forces of nature working against me; or rather, a nasty deer tick.

I'm currently experiencing the early stages of lyme disease, which is easily treatable, but I essentially have the superflu atm. The tick had been there for a bit longer than it should have, but I didn't notice it until yesterday.

So...sorry for 1) delaying the results 2) not getting them in at all. I'm going to do my best to get stuff in for week 4, and if not that, I'll be sure to look at the final submissions.

YEA! 2nd Place! WOOHOO! Too bad it was only worth half as much this week. Also too bad I didn't submit for week 4. But still.

I'm dumb. I lost points for not proofreading....And I didn't do the first two weeks!

Honestly, I'm pretty sure I had more typo's there than in everything I've written for school this year.

I am so very sorry week 4 took so long to get the results up (and with fewer entries, how's that work?) The standard excuses apply; busy with work, busy with life, yadda yadda yadda...

Had some great submissions for this week and rkcr is barely holding on to the lead. I haven't decided on the final round scoring yet, but I think it's safe to say that the points leader can still change.

I hope you guys are already working away on your final submission; I'd be interested to hear which Treatment everyone is going to develop further.

Well, as a, I guess, happy coincidence, I've been unable to start the final challenge until now-ish, so I was able to reserve my decision between the two. I know I'll have trouble really expanding to full length on either, but I'm thinking Fighting for Freedom. This would be the game to get me into MMO's, as the worlds have always felt too static for me, and I feel like maybe I didn't do the idea justice (I've had the idea for quite a while).

Question: Would changes to the original design be allowed?

EDIT:
Question 2: You're certainly more knowledgable than me, do publishers really dislike hearing about revenue?

Of course, would be nice if the spirit of the original is still there though.

They do, it just isn't really needed in the 1 or 2 pager. Touching on the subject a bit (think 1 paragraph or a couple sentences, not a whole page) in this design overview would be good.
