Hey guys I hope this is the right section.
Somehow I screwed up my GHIII (PC). I tried to uninstall it, but it did not work. Now I deleted all the files (as much as I could find) by myself but I still get that f****** awl.dll error
Quote: | The File 'awl.dll' is not marked for installation. |
I really have no idea left Please help me.
Thanks |

Get into the registry, search Guitar Hero per Ctrl+F.
There a 3 thing, Standard, Language and Path. Change the path thing into something other. (So C:\Program Files\Aspyr\Guitar Hero III into C:\lalala)
Now just reinstall the game. x) _________________

Well as I already said I deleted all these files.
Additional information: When I put my GH3 DVD in it only says 'Repair' and 'Uninstall'. The error occurs when I click repair or uninstall ... it's the same. |

I bet you haven't deleted the registry files. ;)
Go into C:\Windows and find the regedit.exe and follow the... "guide" 2 posts above this. _________________

ok ^^ Here's a log of what I am doing
1) Run 'regedit.exe'
2) Search for 'Guitar Hero'
3) The only results I get are the Guitar Hero X-Plorer files.
Do I have to delete them too? |

No you don't...
Wait, I think I found away per google. Gonna edit it in here in bout 2 min, gotta go eat now... :S
Edit:/
Seems like you've got a corrupted uninstall file.
To uninstall it completly, simply remove the folder located at "C:\Documents and Settings\*CURRENT USER*\My Documents\Aspyr\Guitar Hero III" and "C:\Documents and Settings\*CURRENT USER*\Local Settings\Application Data\Aspyr\Guitar Hero III"
Attention, youre also removing savegames this way so back up em if you need em later.
Hope it works. _________________

I think that the registry keys that he's talking about are the keys in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Aspyr > Guitar Hero III
I suppose that changing the path or deleting it will work _________________

put in the install disc
choose uninstall and when it says about awl.dll, go to c:/program files/aspyr/guitar hero III and choose to view hidden files. There will be a 0 byte file, choose to delete. if it says its not able, close the installer and remove the disc from the tray and try again. empty the recycle bin and try to uninstall again.
Hope that helps. Had that problem myself |

This is what I did...
I ran regedit and searched for aspyr
deleted EVERYTHING I found
searched for GH3
deleted everything...
Searched my disk drives for aspyr and then GH3 (with hidden files shown)
Ran the installer, and voilĂ |

I have done the above and am still having the issue. When I input my GH3 DVD and it brings-up Auto-Run, I tell it to run SetUp.exe. However, it immediately comes back and says that it cannot find GH3.exe in F:/ (the location it was previously installed- my external hard drive). If I port over GH3.exe (installed the game on another comp to grab the .exe to see if that would do anything), then it asks for the other .exe's and .dll's in the GH3 folder (AWL.dll and such). If I put all of those back "where they belong", it goes starts like it's going into the installer, and then it gives me a message that the installer has crashed and that Windows is searching for a solution (which it doesn't find, ofc; standard crash message for Vista, pretty much). It almost seems like it's trying to run the game instead of install it, so then I sifted through the GH3 DVD, trying to find a way to directly initiate SetUp.exe, but because everything is compressed I could not do that. However, I did find it in the registry but could do nothing about it (it was on my E drive, aka one of my two DVD drives, hence deleting it from the registry, I think, would have been unwise). _________________

Hi, I have the same problem, it started after i reformatted one of my partitions. but i don't want to reformat my other partition. I get the problem where it says that it cant find E:/.../Aspyr/AWL.dll or something similar. After i tried the things on this thread, i tried to uninstall again and it said something about not being able to find a registry entry. I looked for it and i couldnt find it either.
Ill post screenshots when i get home. Thanks in advance
EDIT: I have the screenshots now. At one stage after removing my folders in Application Data, i got a different message but now both options give:
