|
|
This could easily go in another forum, but I'm sticking it here to get read. And no, I haven't been around; I'm just swooping in and tossing this idea on the floor.
There are 64 songs in Guitar Hero II.
There are 64 participants in the NCAA March Madness tournament.
March is in 2 weeks.
So here's a crazy thought, and we'll see if it gets any support. With the GH Leagues, it very well might, or there might be conflict of interest working on both. I dunno.
I want to try holding a Score Hero Madness Tournament.
It would work pretty much just like the NCAA tournament, except it would involve the top 64 ranked folks (as listed on expert) that sign up, and they would face off on select songs. I would, of course, seed accordingly. Who knows? You might even be able to take bets on the tournament tree and all.
The rounds would be kept simple: the two participants would play 3 pre-determined songs, plus a fourth tie-breaker. If one person had the highest total and won two out of three songs, they win. If it splits (one wins a single song by an extreme amount,) then it gets decided by the tiebreaker. This will keep one bad song from being someone's undoing, and this is important because...
You get one single attempt to play each song. You can practice beforehand, but once you say "This next one is the one that counts," that's it. No more practice. That is your score. Of course, I have no way to verify cheating or not in that regard, but this site is built upon trust.
Given the competitive nature of you folks, it seems to me this would be something a lot of people would get into, so feel free to leave your thoughts and perhaps your interest. (If you're interested, include your current expert rank as well so I don't have to go looking it up.)
I've been largely absent from Score Hero for the last two months, so I may not reply much, but I just wanted to toss the idea down there since it's something I've actually been thinking about for months and now is the time to bring it up. |

This is probably going to get moved, but I think it should stay here because it's an idea for a tournament.
Anyway, it sounds like a cool idea. Good luck getting it organized, though. _________________

Heh.. i'd make it one shot at one song... that way one bad song CAN lose it for you... or one great run can push you through to where you never thought you could go... and consistancy throughout will likely be key!
One of the greatest things about hte NCAA tourney is seeing "impossible" upsets, like George Mason University making the final 4 last year.... who knows, somebody ranked low on scorehero might just have a killer run while ES is having a really bad day and moves on beyond.
Fun idea, too bad it has to be limited to only 64 people. |

I doubt it will get much past 64 people requesting to be a part of it. We're talking 64 forum readers that see this thread and bother to reply.
And I agree with the one-and-done to a certain extent. But a basketball game isn't decided by a single free throw either. I might choose to go for single song rounds, but I thought this would help people feel less like being the victim of crap luck...and less likely to cheat and try again if they screw up. |

I'd join in, but I'm only hovering around 100-90 place right now. Sounds pretty bitchin'. |

I'll be in the top 64 (eventually), depending on when this tournament is I'd be interested. |

Top 100 would be enough, I'm sure, since I'd be asking people to participate. I'd like to see a little more show of support though, or there might not even be 64 to draw from.
bmcle: across the month of March, ideally. |

Definitely sounds like a fun idea, I'd do it. The idea of only being able to play once is a great idea, it's a lot more tense than unlimited tries. _________________

Why overall performance and not winner of each song? If you do overall score then shorter songs like You Really Got Me and Trogdor will matter much, much less than songs like Free Bird and Hangar 18.
If you ask me, just do straight-up best of 3, with each individual score comparison being a win or loss for that song. |

I'm ~140th and steadily improving; I was 300th or so last week, there was (and still is) a lot of songs I haven't worken on properly yet
If you don't get 64 people better than me , you can sign me up _________________

Hit 77th place yesterday, I may be able to get to 64 by March after all. Count me in, if you can. |
