This is the place to discuss anything Sonic related. Got a review of the game? Want to relive the past games? Wanna throw your controller over the fail of some of the more recent ones? It can all be done here folks. Now, on to the important stuff.

General Sonic News

Today SEGA provided it's largest update to it's Steam offerings, all focusing on Sonic.

First, Sonic CD is now available on Steam for only $5, and as a bonus this week, you can get a free Metal Sonic Costume on Spiral Knights when you purchase Sonic CD on Steam. This version is the one by Christian Whitehead and has full support for Steam Leaderboards and Achievements.

Second, Sonic 4 Episode I was released on Steam for only $10. No improvements over earlier versions but it does have Steam Leaderboards and Achievements.

Third, Sonic Generations PC version got DLC in the form of the Casino Night pinball level, which was a pre order bonus on the 360/PS3 versions via GameStop. The DLC is $1.59.

Forth, Many Sonic games on Steam are now discounted until Monday. Games discounted are Generations, Adventure DX, Sonic 1, 2 3&K, Spinball, 3D Blast and ASR.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II

Release Date: 2nd Half of 2012
Consoles: 360 PS3 Wii Windows Phone 7 iOS

As many have expected, the next installment will bring Tails into the mix of things, sort of how he was brought in for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. They admit that there were some mistakes with the first Episode, but they are hoping for a bigger budget, which will help them create more content, improved physics, and better level design. They also go on to say that they want to create brand new zones, not just modified versions of previously created zones, or as I call them, "Parodies" of the originals, which would be a nice new addition to the series. There's no definite answer on how many Episodes SEGA is going to make.

Sonic Generations

Release Date: Released!!!
Consoles: 360 PS3 3DS PC

It's Sonic Generations on the PS3 and 360! Sonic and his friends are enjoying a normal day when all of them get sucked into a "time hole.". Sonic ends up separated from his friends and ends up running into Classic Sonic. Both of them team up to rescue Sonic's friends and defeat a new nemesis! All the levels are HD recreations of classic Sonic Levels from earlier games and you can choose to play as either Classic Sonic who can spin jump and spin dash, or modern Sonic who can use homing attack and the speed boost from the more recent games. The levels are also playable in 21/2D side scrolling and 3D behind Sonic like what Unleashed and Colors had.

Metal Sonic revealed as one of the bosses in the game!

Everything else Sonic related about me:

I have every episode of each show on my computer. (SatAM, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Underground, and Sonic X.)

I have every issue of the Sonic Archie Comic, which I started reading in 2005, all the way up to the current issues.

I actually wrote Sonic fan-fictions when I was in Jr. High. (They disappeared when one of my older computers was tossed.)

I originally began sprite art for the Sonic stuff. I actually had an idea for a sprite comic made of original sprites, backgrounds, and such all by me. The comic was put on permanent halt because I ran into Guitar Hero before I could get further into working on it. :P

I got a Tails plush. :3

I've never really been much of a Sonic fan, but I remember when I was about 7 or 8 I had the Sega Genesis and had two sonic games for it. I can't remember the names of the games (wish I could) but playing them was a total blast. I could never beat the big fat guy with a mustache though.

lol, i saw Sonic The Hedgehog thread and I'm like, HA probably started this thread. Then I looked over and saw you did. XD
Anyway, I used to be a huge Sonic fan and I would still play their games. I have all the original Sega Sonic games in one game for my PS2. I have Sonic Heroes for PS2, and another Sonic game for GBA (I forget what it's called.) I also would like to get Sonic the Hedgehog for PS3.

I had Sonic 1, 2 and 3 on the sega megadrive.

Me and my mum used to play them constantly, I finished every one of them, a few years back I bought a sonic mega collection for the PS2, that was pretty cool, I enjoyed that, but nothing beats the classic on a Sega.

Brilliant games.

I have Sonic Mega Collection Plus for my PS2. I've quit playing it since I've started playing GH.

I have the Mega Collection for PS2 and my roommate has 1 and 2 for the original Genesis. It's funny I found this thread since I recently started playing it again.
Those speed runs are pretty boss, GG08; I think I should try and attempt.

Sonic 2 is my favorite, though I've never played too far into the others. 2 had great gameplay, memorable stages, and catchy music. The Game Boy Advance Sonics were also pretty good.

I've not been a fan of 3D Sonics, but Unleashed looks to have some serious potential. I hope its good.

Nothing beats the Epic Bassline from Sonic 2's Bonus Stage.

1. Sonic Unleashed looks awesome!

2. To me, the Sonic series (with few exceptions) has been going downhill since Dr. Robotnik became Eggman

Favorite character: Knuckles

What I felt was happening with the later games was that Sega was breaking the age old rule "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Adding all the new characters was a bad idea from the get-go, but they kept on doing that. Another thing that was bad was changing the game play around, which is also why I'm liking Sonic Unleashed. According to an interview, 95% of the game will be played as Sonic, because they are going back to their old routes in the 2D days. This gives me a good aura about the game.

I just hope that they don't come up with ideas they think is good and end up ruining the game, like what's happened with every single one after SA2.

From what I saw of Sonic Unleashed, the gameplay looks terrible. It's like, you just have to hold your finger on one direction and watch. The devs think speed = fun, but it's basically the thing that ruined every Sonic games since the megadrive (genesis) era. You can't anticipate anything at this speed, unless you know the level design by heart.

I have spend a lot of time in my childhood playing the genesis Sonic games, my favorite is probably Sonic 2, but they are all awesome.
I'm also a great fan of the Sonic genesis soundtracks, like someone said above, bass and drums are pretty well rendered on the genesis system, and the Sonic musics are using this two instruments really often.

(sorry for my bad english)
