It depends for me. On faster things like Mosh 1 of Raining Blood (GH3 and GH) I play fingertips, and chordheavy songs. But slower and easy stuff, also fast strumming, I play with my fingers.

I play with my fingertips all the time and I have blisters.
I think it gives you more precision but since GHP does it differently most people just follow him.

I think in the long run using your finger tips will help increase speed in your fingers. It also feels really uncomfortable playing with your fingers and not your tips on some really fast sections. It's pretty much just a preference.

I noticed this too and I've started to play differently.. After playing for a few hours my fingers begin to hurt. I can't do slides or fast solos like Cult of Personality without using my fingertips. On things like chords and chord changes, or just single notes, I try to use the side of my fingers like GHP does.

It doesn't really matter, honestly. I mean, I use my fingertips for everything except the insanely fast stuff, at which point my fingers become less curved. But really, what matters is that you do what gives you the most comfort dexterity-wise, and that you have as little finger motion as possible for the really fast stuff. This can be accomplished both ways.

i randomly use the tips of my fingers or the other bits of my fingers, if you put me on the same song twice in a row it will be completely different. i dont know why it happens but it doesnt seem to help or harm what i do

I play like Danny (actually I've been playing longer so technically he plays like me). I don't know why, its just how I learned.

This video shows that I'm actually probably worse than Danny.

Try it, I mean I know you're like Jesus and all, but sometimes I hit random shit with Danny's method.. not that you NEED to change your method but give it a try it's weird but it works..

I usually play with my fingertips.

I'll admit it doesn't look as cool but it works for me.

Danny practically uses the mddle of his fingers to hit the buttons.

I tried it... it's weird.

To all the people saying "at least try it", if it works for you, there's no reason not to do it, but it's a fact that if you take ANY instrument lesson with any teacher of any knowledge EVER, they will tell you that playing with your fingers flat, or in Danny's case, with the freaking middle of your fingers on the frets and most of the time bending the opposite way a finger is normally supposed to, is absolutely terrible and will screw you over when you try and get really good down the road.

However, the difference here is that you don't have more strings or frets for your fingers to accidentally press, or more keys for you to accidentally press at the same time, you just have the 5 buttons.

tl;dr: it's awful technique for real instruments, but for guitar hero it just happens not to have enough buttons to get in the way of.

I've tried doing it like Danny and while I got faster, I had no control over my ring finger and pinky. Maybe you'll get better after you've gotten used to it, but it's really just a preference.

As a matter of fact, you ARE supposed to play the bagpipes with the middle of your fingers.

Can you put 32nd notes in your custom songs on World Tour? I can't.
