Ok so I went and bought a soft mat and the game again but I don't plan on playing as much as I used to (see thread titled "Plantar Fasciitis") so I have no plans on buying another metal mat (unless it's like, uber cheap) but I have a cheap carpet and the so-called "gripped bottom mat" doesn't grip very well to the carpet. I've tried scotch tape to hold it down and tried dual-sided tape. Should I just do the "hard-soft pad" mod that involves a sheet of wood that I've seen on www.ddrfreak.com before? Or do you guys have another solution?

PS, most of my scores are outdated. Especially the GH2 ones.

Make your own pad by ripping the parts and transferring.
That's what my dad and I did.

Here's how to make your own. http://www.geocities.com/ddrhomepad/

Honestly though I think that using a block of wood is easier and cheaper. If you can't get one of those, one of the non-slip-carpet thingys might work for awhile too until it wears out. I dunno what it's called, it's just a non-slip soft rubbery thing to put under floor rugs.

Get The RedOctane Ignition. It doesn't cost as much as a metal one and since it's one inch thick it holds on the ground well. Also the Konami ones stay the ground okay.

It might seem expensive, but you should definitely get a Cobalt Flux. It's by far the best pad I've bought and it beats most of the arcade pads and give you none of those bullshit pad misses. If you buy it, make sure to play on a hard surface, it's really unresponsive with carpeting or other soft material.
