|
|
I have thought of painting my sg for a while now, first thougt that i would do it in the past week, but got some other stuff coming in my way, plus i didn't have any good idea of what the compete guitar should look like.
Yesterday though, i slightly remembered something about someone making a zakk wylde-replica out of his/her SG (his i suppose) and i started looking up other zakk wylde signature models, at first i thought of making the bullseye camo, but i thought that the camo would be quite hard to paint and still have it look smooth.
So after a couple of minutes googling and looking-up on gibsons signature sorting i finally decided to go for the zakk wylde buzzaw. might be a little less famous than the bullseye, but still very nice looking.
So on todays list was:
Get primer
Get Paint (Orange, black)
Get Coating
Disassemble the SG
more coming up tomorrow, some pics of the work, step for step.
Picture of what the painting should look like:

Edit @ 13/3 23.44:
today i've started my work, taking apart the SG, sanding, priming, sanding, priming and for some parts, first layer of paint. pics of progress:
equipment used
me with facemask (aka. spraycan terrorist)
first layer of primer applied to the body
first layer of paint
Edit @ 19/4 12:24
Finally done. my camera has been on service for lika a month, so haven't been able to upload pics until now, here they come anyway!
close-up on body
full guitar
tell me how you think it turned out!

too bad, my camera ran out of batteries so i haven't been able to take any pics on my progress today.
i have worked though, so pics coming up tomorrow, thing i've done tody is:
painted fretboard and fretboard-back
clear-coated fretboad like a thousand times (no sticky-icky though )
clear coated back of the body (also like 1000 times)
tried to masque the strumming-protector and paint it, the result was awful though so i sanded it and started all over, this time with plastic covering ang removable spray-glue.
so tomorrows project will be:
masque body and spraypaint the balck "stripes" or whatever i'm supposed to call them.
clear coat the rest even more
over and out |

sorry 'bout the alck of updates. Have been working all weekend except for yesterday, but we threw a big party so i haven't had time for painting and picture-taking.
I'm off from work tomorrow though, so i should have time to work and take some pictures then.
i have begun the masking of the front-body part though, because the "spriping" won't go all around the guitar. any tips on how to get the masking in a good shape around the whole side would be appriciated |

Great job. It looks really nce. When I'm bored I photoshop, so here are the two guitars side by side.
One easy thing to do that can nicely finish off your guitar is adding silver fret markings like the original. I did mine with a silver leafing pen.
