You should be able to find it on most Abandonware sites, you'll need DOSBox to run it though. |
Oh fuck, Ascendancy! Good to see someone who knows of it and has played it. I've still got it around somewhere in my old CD archives.
stevenlarged wrote: | I would have to say Tomba! is one of my all time favorite games, and no one i know has heard of it. |
Tomba is a fucking classic. Most of us over in the IRC channel know of it and have played it and whatnot.
Also, great to see some love for Einhänder in this thread. You guys rock
Regarding some games mentioned in this thread...
Earthbound: Incredibly popular on the internet, just about everybody loves it due to the storyline, etc.
Spyro was mainstream popular. VERY popular.
A few off the top of my head that deserve more attention:
Karnov (NES)
The Magic of Scheherezade (NES)
Moraff's World (PC, 1991)
Bridge Builder (PC, 2006 I think, indie game, free on interwebs)
Yume Nikki (another indie PC game, it's awesome, go play it)
Dink Smallwood (PC, 1998 I think - great old RPG with a strong sense of humor and a devoted fanbase. To this day, a relatively small group people are still releasing custom maps for it) _________________

Holy shit...
I used to play Commander Keen all the time on my Grandma's ancient computer whenever we visited her. The game was ridiculously hard for me back then.
The game also came with this addictive Pong-like game. I can barely remember it though... _________________

Kinitawowi,
You don't have Scorched Earth?!? What kind of DOS game player are you?
Also find Zany Golf. If you can beat that game... you are unholy. I still have the original 5.25" floppies for Zany Golf somewhere. (I copied them to 3.5" floppies long ago when I still had access to a working 5.25" drive so that I'd be able to access the data later in the future, hahahaha!)
EDIT: I won't blame you for not having Tristan but I will blame you for not having Tapper. And I don't know if it's a good thing that you don't have the original Leisure Suit Larry in your list... |

I was never particularly fond of that one.
At some point, I'll go through that list and note what all the games actually are; they're not necessarily all that they appear to be... (There's more to the Nukem folder than meets the eye, for instance.) |
I had the original 2d platformer Duke Nukems and the Commander Keens, too. I was particularly fond of Commander Keen 4.
Edit:

That was Commander Keen 4. The pong game was built in to your watch in the Pause Menu. I admit playing that a lot of the time, as well. _________________

This, Secret of Mana, and The Illusion of Gaia are very fun RPGs for the SNES. Also, lots of people didn't know about the first Breath of Fire for the SNES. Most have only played the GBA versions. BoF was an awesome game IMO.
Monkey Island series for the PC were some of the best puzzle games I've ever played. Not only fun but can make you laugh. They came out with Escape from Monkey Island (#4 in the series) for the PS2 and I'm assuming it's the same as the PC version.
There are SO many for the NES. Metal Gear 1 and Snakes Revenge are two of my all time favorites. Most people only know the playstation Metal Gears, but the two originals are absolutely awesome (although Snakes Revenge is one of the hardest games I've played). Solomon's Key is also another great one to play. |

I have the original floppy disc. And it's backed up on my flash drive for safekeeping, as well, but this floppy hasn't failed in almost 16 years. Unlike some of my other floppies, which haven't even lasted a few months. Still, it feels really good to pop in the disc and install it the same way I did on my first Windows 95 computer. Brings back memories.
Fun fact: I've never actually completed the game from level 1 to 149 without skipping levels or jumping around, but on my latest attempt, I got to level 108 or something before I shipped my laptop out. _________________
