I'm thinking I-Ninja, but that's a PS2 game...
Could be Monkey Hero instead. You're more of a Samurai there though... _________________

I had the game, I played it when I was younger (I'm 14 right now, so I played it when I was about 9 or 10), I was stuck on some boss I could never beat. It was on the 3rd disc I believe. _________________

Played all of those except Heart of Darkness, but i've heard of it too. :P |
HoD is pretty good and the deaths seem kinda morbid at times.
The animation is smooth for the most part and it can get frustrating thinking of where to go. Its pretty damn good though. _________________

When I was about 4 years old, back in 1989, I got a computer. My parents, being thrifty, instead of buying me $50 games, got me a ton of discs from retailers that had a ton of demos on them, such as "The Best 101 Games" volumes 1, 2, 3 etc. (This was a bit later on once the CD actually became a remotely decent medium). I also subscribed to PC Gamer for a good three or four years from 1994 on, which got me a lot more demos to screw around with, so i'm really familiar with obscure 80's-90's era DOS games. Nice to see someone else here shares that hobby
(I actually compiled this list BEFORE I saw the post where you revealed everything too, by the way.)
Although, come on, Commander Keen is one of THE DOS games of all time! It’s classic! |
Heh. A lot of this was stuff that I originally only knew through demos (most of the Apogee stuff, in particular - shareware FTW) and picked up full versions of later through... various means.
You also only got one of them wrong; "enoid" is Electranoid. There's a whole series of similar Breakout clones (to give them their proper designation; these days they're more likely to be referred to as Arkanoid clones, hence...); Aquanoid, which was awesome, and Banananoid, which was not, to name but two.
Also, it must be something about being four. I was playing games on my Dad's ZX Spectrum when I was four, and the ten to twelve years after that became pretty much my formative era of gaming.
Quote: | Well, after that, I think I’ve came to one of three conclusions:
1) I enjoy playing a REALLY wide variety of games, both known and unknown:
2) I feel old now
3) I might be a good person to start some sort of a topic where I take pictures of games, maybe alter them slightly, and see if you guys can identify them. Anyone interested? |
4) All of the above. And as for 3... yes. Definitely. _________________

Azurite, since i felt quoting you was useless because of the gigantic amount of text in your thread, i'll just say...Commander Keen is how i spent all of my time as a 6 or 7 year old kid. maybe older. best and only game i played for like, a whole year of my life. _________________

Legend Of Dragoon (PS1) | ohhhh good choice. My second favorite RPG of the PS1 era. I remember being stuck on the final boss for at least a month, then I finally decided to grind enough for another level up, helping me finally beat that fucker. Screw bosses with 8 different forms. _________________

Glad to see the old-school love going around.
Here's a few off the top of my head, some pretty well known, some not so much:
Karateka: martial arts sidescroller that was a precursor to the original Prince of Persia game. This game was pretty awesome for its day.
Ultima IV: back in the day, Ultima games were the shit. To this day, this game is one of the most compelling RPG's I've ever played.
Panzer Dragoon Zwei: You could list any number of Sega Saturn games here and I could list the reasons they made me happy. A sad day was the day I had to sell off my Saturn collection to make rent. Which brings us to the only Saturn game I still own:
Guardian Heroes: Sidescrolling beat 'em up action meets anime style meets RPG leveling and magic. Still one of my favorite games of all time.
I've got more and could go on for days. O.G. gamer FTW. _________________
