Yeah, I really like videogame music, I have over 74GB of it on my harddrives and dvd backups. There is only one other forum that I have been a member of (that I still check in on) longer than SH and it is a videogame music forum.

The Chrono Cross soundtrack is one of my favorites, as is pretty much anything from the Wild Arms series and Castlevania series. Guilty Gear has some pretty cool music overall too. If I were to pick a some favorites from each series...

Chrono Cross - Scars of Time (Main Theme)

Chrono Cross - Magical Dreamers

Wild Arms - To the End of the Wilderness

Castlevania Symphony of the Night - Prologue

Guilty Gear (Any version really) - Awe of She

And for fun... (Can't help but want to dance to these)

Castle Crashers - End of Level Theme

Castle Crashers - Forest Entrance Theme

off topic but I found it hilarious to read that and see that avatar right next to it...maybe I'm the only one?

on topic: I really liked the music from Sonic R although a lot of people hated that...I liked it, with or without vocals....I prefer the instrumental versions over the lyrical versions now, but I still like all of the songs

AAAANNND Fire Emblem music... all the way.

This. Fire Emblem main theme is awesome.

Also, Tetris and Super Mario 1 through 3 and Bubble Bobble (best game EVER).

And, for anyone who would like to check them out, Machinae Supremacy. Not only do they use Commodore 64 chips in their music, they've also provided the entire soundtrack for Jets 'n' Guns (which is surprisingly a very good game, for as little known as it is) for PC. They also have some covers of VG music, mostly as medleys. Some of their songs have been made into custom charts that if I recall correctly are still available on customhero. And best of all, all of their work not available on disc is available, for download, for FREE, on their website. Note, however: not all of their music is VG related.

Lot's of video game music is amazing, but i think, like any other medium, lots of the time it can be improved with a single thing: metal. And thus i present to you all the band Powerglove.
Here's a sample of one you should recognize pretty easily:

Mario Minor

And since I've seen quite a bit of Final Fantasy in this thread already, here's one of there adaptations from Final Fantasy 7:

Omnishred (We're gonna need a bigger sword)

I like this band alot because of how they take some really great melodies from old games like mario, castlevania, and tetris, and really ramp them up and out of their 8-bit era limitations. And it's all so metal. Here are some of my other favourites from these guys:

Vanquish the Horrible Night

Red Wings Over Baron

Tetris

More can be found at this channel. Enjoy!

That theme is EARWORM INCARNATE.

(And, yeah. Top five without question.)

While I guess you could argue it's not true videogame music, I think the Black Mages' interpretations of Final Fantasy music is amazing. Rather sloppy live, though.

Clash on the Big Bridge

Serious advice now: No-one likes indecision in their work, so find what you like that you're even remotely good at, and stick with it. Don't flit from one thing to another, because that just smacks of a large lack of determination and drive. And people don't like you for that, and won't remember you for it. I mean, I get that you have a plucky spirit and a willingness to try new things, but there's a limit, man.
I might knock it down to just Thursday and Friday.

What are you talking about with metal improving videogame music? Metal seems to improve just about anything involving music.....

Music is like candy, you throw out the (w)rappers.
People who rap aren't rappers, they're rap-ists, y'know, like art-ists. Which looks suspiciously like the word "rapist".

EVERY single Street Fighter game (excluding the crappy first part) had a great soundtrack.

Yes, even the so-so EX games soundtrack was great. (Well, the first and third ones... The second EX game used none of the original BGMs from the first ones, and that's where the third one picked up again.)

My favorite Street Fighter soundtracks are from Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold and Alpha 3. In all honesty, every song on there, down to the character select themes and the continue themes, were great.

EDIT: I almost forgot about the Kingdom Hearts series.

The first one had a great soundtrack, but the second one took the cake. That piano theme for Organization XIII is one of the most beautiful Square Exix pieces I've ever heard.

Not really sure how I stumbled across this thread, as it's sort of old, but listening to some of the stuff in his thread is giving me nostalgic chills all over. Particularly the stuff from Golden Sun : The Lost Age.

Also, Fire Emblem music is amazing.

I skimmed through the thread, and so far I've seen no one post this. SERIOUSLY?

Personally City Escape is my favorite song from any video game ever.

Ha, I forgot about City Escape. Me and my friends used to randomly start singing the song... just whenever. It also has a really awesome bass part. And it's just an awesome song.

You, good sir, win.

Dragon Quest VIII has some of my favorite tunes as well. It ranges from soothing, to frantic, to JUST FUCKING EPIC. Certainly made playing the game, which was amazing on its own, so much better.
