Guitar Hero 3, Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Guitar Hero World Tour, Guitar Hero Metallica Chart Extractor

I am new here, and I found it took a few goes to learn now to extract the charts from my Guitar Hero games. Even though the process isn't that difficult, it is tedious. Most of the programs do not support wildcards in the command line, and so, each chart has to be done manually.

Not for long:

This program will do all the hard work of extracting your chart files from your GH3/A disk

This will also work for GHWT/M, but the chart format is a bit different. Modification of these charts will be needed. Until the format is better understood, and this program is upgraded accordingly. Read the known issues section below.

All you have to do is insert your disk. The program will try to auto-detect the disk, extract the charts, and clean up it's mess.

You will be left with a Charts folder.

I tested it on my GH3 and GHWT PS2 disks on Windows Vista. It should work on XP too.

Give it a try:
http://www.ziddu.com/download/5047469/chartExtractor1.3.zip.html (Preferred)

http://www.mediafire.com/?drg4gy3nkzi (Please only use this if the first one doesn't work this time)

Please note that extracting charts is illegal unless you own the game. Do not go asking me or others for charts, we do not support piracy here.

Usage:

chartExtractor [file location]

[file location] is the location of your Guitar Hero data files. Usually, this is your CD\DVD Drive

The program can be executed without parameters, and it will try find the files itself

Version History:

1.3
Fix a bug in the checking of user choices
Modified PakEditor2 into PakExtractor - source included
MUCH faster than the previous release

1.2
User can specify a path to the files as a parameter. Extraction begins immediately if a valid path is entered
Disk detection code clean-up

1.1
Replaced some functions with more compatible code
Better clean-up
Better disk checking

1.0
Initial Release

Known Issues:

Listed below are known limitations of the conversion process. My program simply takes the manual part out of using the current tools available, so there is nothing I can do about these problems without modification of the source codes to these tools, which may or may not be available. Feel free to comment here or PM me if better tools are available to replace the current ones used in this program.

The pak->chart conversion process does not like the "boss battles" on the GH3 disk, but you can get them to convert by using Leff's Song Importer which seems to follow a different conversion note conversion process. I found Leff's tool corrupts the other charts bass tracks though. I hope he gets this sorted some time:
http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=57361

GHWT/M chart specification is different. Currently, charts can be extracted, but they will need to be modified to taste.

Song metadata is not extracted from the charts (name, author, etc), only notes.

Well this is awesome, I hope this works with Metallica.

EDIT: I tried it with GH3PC, this just scrolls there infinitely.

Code:
Detected Guitar Hero disk in drive D:\
CHOICE not recognized as an internal or external command, open
program or batch file

Please enter Y or N and press Enter

Your file hosting service is horrible --- 3 different pop-up windows, and I never could get the file to download.

But this does sound like a very good program, and it will be a TERRIFIC complement to the GH Audio Conversion program that I'm working on. If you want me to host your zip file on my malictus.net server for free (with no pop-ups or bs), just let me know.

EDIT: Ah OK, finally I got it downloaded....

Thanks for your feedback. I have implemented my own choice function using legacy commands, and have added a few more features. Try it now

I like this hosting service because it allows me to monitor the downloads, but if i get many complaints, I will change it

Tried to download, went to the website, was spammed by tons of ads, which then causes my computer to crash. Please use another hosting site.

Added a mirror from mediafire.
If you don't mind ads, I would prefer it if you at least tried the ziddu link, as it tells me how many people have downloaded the file

You may already know this, but the chart specification is different for GHWT and GHM. People on these forums are still working on extracting perfect charts for these games.

As soon as we figure it out...i will update this program

For now though, you will have to modify the charts extracted from GHWT and GHM to suit your needs.

It's been on the "Extracting charts!" part for 3 hours now. I think that something went wrong...

With my GH3 disk, it took 10 mins (I think).
For the GHWT disk i tested, i just started it and checked it in the morning.

I will go through each step of the program and see what it's doing. I already found one possible bug.

Will keep you posted, sorry for the inconvenience. A programmer can never test everything

Edit:

OK, I did a bit of C coding. Included is a MUCH faster pak extractor - I'm talking under 1 second instead of a few minutes per file.

That should speed things up, and hopefully solve the issue with the boss charts. I'm just testing it out on my system first.

EDIT 2:
DAMN! Any faster and we would have gone back in time!
1.5 mins for the GHWT disk! Hopefully that's better than 3 hours ;)

Uploading now

Any chance you can add support for x360 Iso's (Rather than direct from disc ) ?

No, however, i have two alternative suggestions:

1. use 7zip to open the iso and extract the files.

You can then use:

chartExtractor [path to files]

2. use a virtual drive such as Virtual Clone Drive or Daemon Tools

you can then use

chartExtractor [path to virtual disk]

Of course, you can run the program without parameters and enter the path within the program

Also, I don't know if this will work for XBox 360, as the file structure may be different, but you can test this for me if you want

This works really well now, except that the charts aren't very good ^_^

Code:
[Song]
{
   Name = "allnightmarelong"
   Artist = "allnightmarelong authors"
   Charter = "NS"
   Offset = 0
   Resolution = 192
   Player2 = Bass
   Difficulty = 0
   PreviewStart = 0.00
   PreviewEnd = 0.00
   Genre = "rock"
   MediaType = "cd"
   MusicStream = "allnightmarelong.ogg"
}
[SyncTrack]
{

My program is just a script that takes out the manual part of using the tools available. I am not responsible if there is not currently a tool that will extract the correct song info from the charts. I know they aren't very good...but it's the best you are going to get by doing it manually anyways. As soon as better tools are available on scorehero, I will update the script to include them.

My next addition will be adding GH1/2/80s chart extraction. Since this is well-documented and such, the charts will actually be better. That will have to wait until my exams are finished though...
