PostPosted: Fri Jul 24, 2009 9:07 pm    Post subject: GH Vocals Video Reference Thread Reply with quote

I've noticed a lot of posts recently in which people are asking about the best way to 5* or FC a vocals song. Short of explaining it pitch-by-pitch ("then you move up to an Eb on the next note..."), the best way to guide people seems to be through videos.

This is a master reference thread to which anyone can submit videos of good vocals runs. I already have a video for everything on GH:SH, but on the advent of GH5, my hope is that this thread will become a crutch for anyone who's having trouble with the myriad songs about to be released. In addition, plenty of people still play GHWT and GHM, and it would be great to beef up a collection of those vocals runs too. This means that people need to stop being shy and start posting videos of vocals runs!

Note that this thread isn't meant to help with score or paths but rather for people who are struggling to figure out the pitches or rhythms. Pathing is a whole other beast and already has threads devoted to it.

Feel free to post your videos and I will update the OP! I'll do a sweep of the leaderboards later and add any videos I can find for these games.

I think it's a great idea and I would love to put out some videos but I have no capturing device for it.

I'll help!

My video quality isn't really great since I just use my Macbook to record, but I think more videos will always be good.

I'll probably just concentrate on GHM, and maybe a few songs in WT. I get too frustrated playing that game... I'll make something today if you want. I have a couple of -1's on some GHM songs in my channel. Hopefully those are good enough to add. :p

Sweet! I'll work on updating the OP to create a master list of all the songs. Hopefully this will end up being epic and/or stickied.

Okay, bump for re-structure of OP. Remember, post your vids in this thread and I'll update (and will give credit). Also, feel free to post vids of songs that already have vids up. The more the merrier!

These videos are FC's or really dumb -1's (except for SCC, which is a -3 and probably the best I'll ever get on video). lol at my videos and some of them saying I'm 1st. I should have known better than to put that in a video :3

Turn the Page (Live) (GuitarHailz)

No Leaf Clover (GuitarHailz)

Evil (GuitarHailz)

Stone Cold Crazy (GuitarHailz)

Mercyful Fate (GuitarHailz - Satan's Fall section)

Hopefully over the next couple of days I'll make a few more. I was going to try and get Mercyful Fate on video, but isn't the youtube limit 10 minutes?

I don't understand how people are saying listening to other people singing helps. Wouldn't just be easier to turn the vocals up and turn everything else down? Whatever, if you guys think it does help I'm sure I could contribute in some form.

In my experience messing with the volume controls in Guitar Hero doesn't do much. I've turned everything down and the vocals all the way up and to me it sounds barely any different.

Listening to the actual singer doesn't help as much as listening to someone play the game, anyway (imo). An actual singer does things like vibrato or other things like singing softly or whatever ...and as you would know that just don't translate well when playing the game. It often helps for me to listen to the "robotic" singing when I'm trying to FC something.

How come its a big deal to have this thread? Only contribute cause you want to, but if you don't like the idea then why bother.

Actually I talked about it with another vocalist, Y2Grae and came to the conclusion that it is a good idea. I likened it to showing hands in guitar videos. I said that it didn't seem very helpful to me but if it helps other people then I'm all for that, and actually would be glad to contribute. In what appears to be a trend in this forum, this was launched without any discussion or approval from anyone else and that's the reason I've decided I don't want to be a part of this, not because I don't like the idea (I do like the idea).

So you're not participating on principle? What sort of approval should I have sought? Dude, I think you're taking this way too seriously.

Forums are used as a means to discuss things, what type of approval or discussion did you expect? Last time I checked it's not necessary to check with the vocals high council before posting a thread in the technique forum, did you expect a PM asking you if it was okay to make this thread or something? You claim to like the idea, but you're not going to be a part of it because the idea wasn't brought to your attention for approval before being posted in a forum for discussion?

These forums are for discussion, there is no sub-forum in which to discuss what to post in the forums. There is no precursor step that people are skipping which you should take offense to at all.

If you don't want to contribute, don't contribute, if you do, contribute. All you are doing is posting in here expressing why you disapprove of how this thread was created, then saying "oh sorry even though I want to help I am withholding because I don't like the way you guys do things." Nobody asked for your contributions. I'm glad you talked it over with Y2Grae and the two of you judged the project worthy, but seriously if you have absolutely nothing to contribute, what's the fucking point?

Well done everyone who bitched then for missing the point made.

to the newcomers, its no underlying fact that vocals has been labelled "clique-y" by some.

I think the point being made was one of why dont we all work together and share, but then not being included in the off.

Boyoboyy is to my knowledge the only holder of FGFC on vocals of world tour, and ranked #1 on scoreboards and has helped out here no end on paths and freeform notes (not so much on the 2nd 2 games as they were released here after threads were done)

All i think the point was, is if we are sharing and wanting to get a community feel to the place, then a little more communal feel to it might go down well.

I can see how you came to your conclusions, and i fully support this idea for the record, and have several videos up to show vocal paths and to my knowledge, the only freeform technique video EVER posted.

I like sharing, just tell me when and i will
