Well now that it's confirmed that all current charts that were being stores on savefile have officially been completely lost, shouldn't someone go and clean out the database?
God, this sucks so hardcore...so many great charts lost from users who are no longer active and therefore won't bother re-uploading charts to a new host. And of course, all the charts I ever made were on savefile, the original files on my old computer which got cleaned out about a year ago...
RIP, 75% of all of scorehero's customs. _________________

The inactive users I can see being a problem, but honestly who doesn't keep a backup of their own charts on their computer? That's just silly. _________________

I'm sure its not comfirmed, I'm sure they are still there just gotta wait a bit.
Also, Auriscope has this idea until then here:

I will be posting lots of charts there as well,
if you have some charts that are from savefile only, up them to mediafire and share them, and even pick up a few. _________________

This. I move my charts to a "done" folder inside the main db Songs folder.
Maybe an admin should send a mass email out asking for everyone to reupload their charts to Mediafire or something similar.
I'd hate to see Customs take such a hard kick in the groin. _________________

Has anyone seen the new savefile? It's officially dead. Now, it's just a search engine/resource thingy. Either way, RIP 98% of scorehero's customs . _________________

I found Savefile here. It's a bit different than the old one, and all of the data's been wiped. Savefile.com no longer exists, since they moved over to Savefile.org. All the data's gone though, since my login doesn't work...
On the topic of keeping chart backups on my computer, one example of losing a chart would be me. Thanks to a glitch in my external hard drive, I lost Kiss of Dawn and a few other charts made by other people and stuff I never finished. Other than that, I have everything. This may be the one valid instance of not saving all of my files. And then there's the consideration of inactive users (which there are a lot of, for a while myself included).
Mediafire seems to be the most stable file uploader at the moment, since Rapidshare barely works anymore without telling me I have to become a premium member to download anything and Mediafire usually works without a hitch. Dedicated FTP Server time for me? |

If SaveFile.com is dead, then customs linked to there are dead too. (and SF is dead) I support "mass emailing" mentioned by TehBanStick and removing dead files. It's pretty lame when someone would like to download something 'cos they're glad to see it in the database and want to play it, but it can't be downloaded.
Having thousands of dead links are badder than having 100 working customs IMO.
BTW, I knew SF would die when they went "Small Megaupload" / Rapidsh t style. _________________

Not unless you can contact the original charters and ask them for it. Request any charts you're looking for on the chart recovery movement thread. |
