this game is definitely a game with replay value, especially if you're competitive. Not only is 5* on expert difficult, but after 5* there is a HUGE margin for score improvement... with rewinds, euphoria, and effects dial there are so many ways to jack up your score, that pathing is gonna be ridiculous... and just forget full combos... the intense beats this game puts your hands through is gonna make this game take longer than gh2 or 3 >_<

Still never answered my other question (Well, not directly anyway)

In a month (around Christmas time) Will people still be playing this, specifically here on SH? Im guessing yes, especially if JCirri adds scoretracking. Will there stil be competition in a month and a half?

Yes, ppl will definitely be playing, and competing on this game. I think more so than even on guitar hero.

One thing I think will happen with dj hero, is that the ppl who have been dissapointed in guitar hero no longer being guitar focused, will find their fun on dj hero. It's the downside of a "full band" game. The song list has to be based around 4 different instruments. And the tradeoffs, are intense guitar / drum tracks with nothing but screamer (talkie) vocals. Or crazy vocals with retardedly simple guitar and drum sets... and still bass is the "back seat" position no matter what enhancements they've given it... Dj hero is an entire game focused around one instrument, and thus only needs to worry about that one instrument getting what it needs out of any release.

Also the challenge level is more likely to be upkept. Think about it: for guitar hero, to have a difficult guitar song, the song has to exist first, or be written specifically for guitar hero. But on dj hero, each mashup is designed for the game. This means, no matter the source material, difficulty is essentially set by the dj as he mixes it. So they don't even need to get really intense songs, as they can just mix them with intensity. Take a look at the different mixes which overlap song samples. Heard it through he grapevine for instance has two mixes, one pretty easy, then another which is more difficult.

So not only is dj hero a 1 instrument game, allowing more focused competition, but also will have more difficulty dlc options more readily available as the original songs complexity is irrelivant.

I think the only thing they should add is DJ+Gtr vs DJ+Gtr

Are you playing on expert? I've found that both the dj during the songs (especially monkey wrench) and the guitar during all songs is pretty broken. Simple things like strum ~ hammeron sustains will overstrum in the sustain several times. and in monkey wrench, it starts with a scratch pattern u d u d udud, very easy, yet unless you let off the button and re-press it for the 2nd up and down, it will break combo. as if it were seperate scratch patterns. this occurs several times throughout the song.

Grimnir definitely has a point on this one.

Of my 10 remaining 5*'s,
1 is Beats and Pieces,
1 is Rockit,
1 is some other "Very Hard" Intensity song

and 7 are guitar mixes (2 are Average intensity).

At first I thought it was because of the lack or rewinds, but at this point I think it's just a lack of combo-ability

All I can say is this: hardest american-based rhythm game overall ever released.

I know GH3 may have harder tracks, but seriously, 9 out of every 10 tracks in this game are going to be insanely hard to FC, and I don't even see how about 20% of them will EVER be fc'ed.

Not saying they're UNfcable, but it's just going to take a lot of practice and a lot of time before people start fcing the majority of this game.

I mean, some of the button tapping alone rivals stuff you'd see in Stepmania or Beatmania IIDX considering you're supposed to do it one handed, then you add in the crossfading and scratching in between the button hits, seriously, wow.

I can honestly say no american rhythm game has ever handed me my ass this bad overall. Definitely get this if you want a real challenge.

Azurite just hit the nail on the head.

No other American rhythm game has broken me as much as Rockit, Groundhog, and Lee Majors Come Again/Da Funk has (haven't played Beats and Pieces yet).

How hard is it to FC even the easiest of songs?

It seems like almost no one has THAT many FCs yet. Is it just really chokable or the hardware?

It's just a lot easier to screw up even on easier songs. I'm sure players better than me have more FC's, but what I've noticed is that you have to be extremely precise in your movements, and there are so many elements that can break your combo.

With GH there's overstrumming and missing notes as the only way to break an FC. In DJ Hero there's overscratching, messing up a rewind, overshooting the crossfade in either direction, over tapping, or missing taps/crossfades/etc altogether of course. There's just a lot more thrown into the equation that is required for an FC, not to mention fairly strict timing windows (so it feels).

I'm sure things will start to be FC'd as people get better. But it's extremely challenging to FC even the easiest songs. Not to mention the fact that optimal paths will surely require many rewinds, meaning every FC would take minutes longer than the actual song is.

what hailz said.

Full combos would be easier if you didn't rewind, but then your score would be so crap it might as well not be a fc...

Pathing in this game is gonna be crazy, with rewinds and euphoria in the mix. So is squeezing, especially with the effect dial areas... Has anyone tried squeezing a cross fade + note into an effect dial area? I've squeezed cross fades and notes.. but I'm not good enough to get them both yet lol >_<
