I have absolute pitch, and I remember emptyset saying he had it too when I met him at dhofest2. _________________

I can recognize an A, E, or D easily, and Eb, Ab, C, C#, and G a little less easily. Those are all acquired through playing music for me. Sometimes, when I hear a new song, I try to identify the scale before it ends, and usually I get it. |

Exactly my thoughts. I hate people who can play a song perfectly by ear. I got a 3/12 and I took the relative pitch test where it gives middle C. I thought for sure I did better. It is an amazing talent though.
Edit: I just took the perfect pitch test and got a 5/12. _________________

I took the relative pitch test and got 12/12. I then took the perfect pitch test and got 5/12. The relative test is much easier because having the middle C reference makes it almost impossible to get wrong if you play an instrument and are used to how two notes sound relatively at different distances. But yeah, for the perfect pitch thing, that would be a no for me, even though I tried to use relative pitch from my memory when I took the test. <_< _________________

Recognizing intervals is easier then single notes. There's plenty of examples you can use. If you memorize one song to relate to each then relative pitch can figure out the interval. Minor 2nd is a half step or the very next key over, and is very recognizable due to the jaws theme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLAYvjaGGqM
I got 4 out of 12 on the perfect pitch test. I feel better then most...
I feel like I would do better if all of the notes were played on the open E string of a guitar. What octave (#) is low E on a guitar in btw. Is it the 5th?
I lost my music theory notes on relative pitch and interval training though. Our teacher gave us an example for every interval. I'd rather feel good about myself then take the relative pitch test. _________________

I believe that I "learned" it when my grandpa bought us an electric keyboard that had all the musical notes labeled. I was around four years old at the time.

I think it's a pretty cool concept, does anyone else have this? |
If you have perfect pitch and are a musician...it's torture.
You will never be able to enjoy a performance live if one little instrument is out of pitch. You will never be able to see a choir if one little person is sharp or flat.
If you're a musician and want to be better, get relative pitch. Not perfect pitch. It's hell |

This thread just reminded me... My drummer recently complimented me on the fact that he has not once heard me lose the tempo of a song.
I do pay damn good attention to rhythm in my guitar playing. It's quite important to me. If I don't have perfect pitch then at least I'm good at that.
I completely blame guitar hero. _________________

3rd. Guitar Hero does develop rhythm pretty well but almost exclusively 4/4 and 3/4. Oh well |

I got 6 of 12 correct.
I don't have perfect pitch, but I know when notes are sharp/flat notes every time. It's a different kind of sound than normal notes. _________________

I don't have either. Though i am pretty good at ear tuning. (does anyone else think its easier to tune to an octave then a unison?)
If anyone has heard of it there is also something called perfect meter, which is basically one can hear a song and tell you what the tempo is. Or can give tempos pretty exactly.
Both are pretty cool. |
