|
|
We've finished up putting the final touches on our preview of Guitar Hero 5, go here to read it.
http://wiki.scorehero.com/GuitarHero5HandsOn
Feel free to ask questions here, though we'll likely end up ignoring the bulk of the "how was [song name] charted / how hard was [song name] on [instrument]?" type questions. We also didn't get a whole lot of time to play the game so there probably isn't that much that isn't covered in the preview article already.
Enjoy! _________________

Q For anyone who played: How exactly does the vocals engine feel? Any changes from M/SH/WT? What purpose do freeforms have now? Etc...I'd be very interesting in knowing anything about that.
Come on, someone had to try it _________________

Were you able to use the song creator at all? (I know you probably didn't have time to use it much, but I'm wondering if you had time at all to use it.) _________________

I dont know enough abotu the song creator in WT, that i figured it would be a waste of my time to really even try it out (id have no easy comparisons). It would have taken me way too long to figure anything out that it would not have been an efficient use of my time. I also figured that hte traditional sites would be covering the features/etc of that pretty thoroughly, etc. _________________

With the inclusion of Focus Mode, does this make the exportation of Tool songs possible? Being that the main thing about the Tool songs is that whomever in the band or whatever didn't want in-game avatar people things playing the song?
That made no sense.
But anyway, I hate being this excited about the game. It sounds like tons more fun than WT was, and WT was pretty fun, IMO. _________________

Did you get to try out the new drum set? Other than a few pictures we really haven't gotten any info on them and I am curious if they are significantly better than the ghwt drums.
Also, how was the guitar/bass engine, such as HOPOs and strumming? Was it basically the same as GHM and GHSH or has it been tweaked at all? |

I read the entire thing, and this game looks so much better than I originally thought it would be. I was like, WT meh, Metallica pretty sweet, Smash Hits okay, and now this. The entire thing looks so smooth. Like ImaCarrot says: "I really don't know how to explain it, but the engine just plain feels good, much better than any other Neversoft Guitar Hero game in my opinion."
I think that's something that the people of ScoreHero have been wanting and expecting for awhile now. I think it'll bring most of us back to the older games, when the only thing we had to worry about was the setlist, that the rest of the game would take care of itself.
I'm really looking forward to this game, and this'll probably be the one for me to upgrade (my most recent game is GH3 )
oh, and this: Barfo is still a beast, FrankieB no longer looks like a giant marshmallow (though he is a sweet hat), Sluggo cut off all his hair and Phr34k is still sexy. _________________

There was nary a GH5 drumset to be seen at thte event, it was all (im pretty sure never played on before) WT kits. Im not sure what this implies in terms of how ready the GH5 ktis are/are going ot be for hte launch in three weeks.
The guitar engine in terms of ticks/etc felt exactly the same to me during my 133,337 score run (going up by evens, etc) as its been since GH3. HOPOs broadly felt the same and the taping/transparent notes all felt pretty good (though ive never had problems with them before). As carrot wrote in the article, the rope is gone, which is nice cause i always found that distracting. The frampton song on guitar has a solo in the middle of it that is something like 2 minutes or more of tapping notes. One thing i noticed is that in terms of visuals, the HOPO notes glow white with a more complex 'lustrous sheen' than in the GHWT/GHM display type, it looked nice but its starting to get a bit crazy, and i wonder how that might work on regular deifnition TVs or smaller TVs rather than the nice HDTVs they had at the event. One last point HOPO chords are in (used sparingly) and everybody i talked to agreed that they feel more natural and intuitively hittable than the ones in RB2 (which have to me always felt finicky and unintuitive, though certainly not prohibitively so). _________________

The Dueling Banjos song that comes out as DLC soon was on one of the machines we played on. Frankie played the guitar part and Barfo and I were too wrapped up in drums to pay much attention to it. The Johnny Cash cover band was playing when we played this song so we really didn't even get to hear it very well.
I'm sure Frankie can comment as to how fun it is. He might also tell the "Sweet Hat" story.
The engine feels tighter to me, it always felt sloppy in World Tour and the difference was noticeable right away as soon as I started playing. I certainly love how it feels now, though the kids weened on GH3 and later might not agree.
I was also surprised that there weren't any GH5 drum kits on hand, the new Logitech $200 guitars were there though and those are pretty damn nice. _________________

One of the stations that was set up had a bunch of DLC / exported tracks on it, and Dueling Banjos was one of the song choices. Ive never heard the original song, and i couldnt hardly hear it as it was played due to noise from the main stage/etc. All i remember was that the drum chart was kicking my ass quite a bit and the couple times i looked over a the guitar chart that frankie was playing, it looked *nuts*. Frankie finished it wiht 94% or so (i forget exactly) on sightread expert guitar.
EDIT: ninja'd by carrot. and yeah frankie is going to have to tell the 'sweethat' story, im not touching that with a 10' pole. _________________

No reply on the vocal engine? I'm really curious to know. ._.
all in all this still sounds awesome. Focus Mode sounds like something I'll be using on drums. xD _________________

I'd like to know about the vocals engine too. I'd also be particularly interested to know if freeforms have been taken out (I hope not). _________________

Yeah i was waiting hoping that somebody who had actually played it would chime in (i didnt, i suck at vocals). from the past screenshots and coverage, you can see that they have continuted hte trend from GHM and its gone even closer to a RB style system, to the point that for me being not on vocals and a couple of times watching others playing it either during quiet parts on my instrument or what-not i dont see any real differences from teh RB style other htan graphics (i have no idea how SP is accruing, however). You'll need ot wait for somebody who actually knows anything about vocals to chime in in order to get any real hands on impressions _________________

were you able to try out playing two of the same peripheral (two people playing guitar, bass, etc.)? _________________
