Wells this GH Control Panel sounds all fine and dandy, except for the thing
When it says "A proper backup doesn't exist. Do you wish to start backup creation? (Overwriting!)" I click yes, I go to Program Files:Aspyr:Guitar Hero 3:Data:PAK and get to qb.pad.xen(the only file it is picking up), I highlight the file and click open, and it seems like it registering but goes right back to the same screen...wtf! _________________

If your qb.pak.xen file is unmodified, you shouldn't be having this problem. If it's modified you're an idiot. I assume you've tried simply opening the song list again, because when GHTCP loads original settings the first time it closes the song list and you need to open it again.
If you've tried multiple times and for some reason it's not working, try copying that file into the folder GHTCP uses for backups:
GH3 Control Panel > backups > originals _________________

Yes, I deleted the files, reinstalled and patched and still have the smae problem even doing what you said.
I even tried 1.3 control panel, but that didnt work either...
I look at my guitar hero main screen and it says version 1.0.6.57... I have patched it with 1.3, did it not work, or is that just the number for 1.3? |

it is located in "Program Files:Aspyr:Guitar Hero 3:Data:PAK" and it will be the only file that comes up _________________

I'm sorry, all I hear is "I don't have a legal copy of the game, please don't help me with anything until I buy a legitimate copy." _________________

I have the same problem, and my game was bought from a store and i am runing the original game. No modifications! Ofcource i'm runing the latest patch 1.3... I tried to directly copy the game setting file (which should be the "qb.pab.xen" right?) to the GHTCP's backup folder, but nothing happend... |

Yeah, Thanks for this, But when i download the patch, It says "Could not find software please reinstall." And i have it in the right Path, C:\Program Files\Aspyr\Guitar Hero III . Do you have any idea whats wrong? Ive tried moving the patch inside the folder but that doesn't work either.. any help? I have not touched anything.. |

I am having the same problem too. I can't load "qb.pab.xen". My game is original. It is updated with the latest patch 1.3 from Aspyr Website.
@inimitable. Could you tell us please , the size of the unmodified newly installed "qb.pab.xen" in KB ??
NOTE: I was using patch 1.2. My PC now at repair. I am using my laptop which can't run GH3. I installed the game on the laptop, and patched to 1.3 but i didn't run the game at all. Could that be a problem ?? As "qb.pab.xen" is not still read by the new patch or it should by working at all times ? Thank you. Wish this is solved so soon... |

My qb.pab.xen backup is 2.36mb.
I honestly don't know what to tell you guys. If you're running 32bit XP, it should work just fine unless you're doing something wrong. Those of you running 64bit or Vista can find solutions to their issues elsewhere, as there have been a bunch of threads regarding these troubles as well as a lot of discussion in the GHTCP thread itself. While I'm happy to help out by providing this guide, I absolutely hate playing tech support. _________________
