well I've broken my whammy bar for the 4th time.
Lucky me, I've managed to temporarily fix it every time.
One big problem I've noticed with mine is that th potentiometer gets all funny and quits.....then I have to spray contact cleaner in it which makes it good for about a month.
Anyone else having these problems or do I just wham the whammy bar too much? |

You can try adjusting the "potentiometer" (I hope I know what I'm talking about). If you look at it, there should be two screws holding the potentiometer in place. Loosen them (but don't remove them, because they can be a b**** to put back), and rotate the potentiometer to change where it registers whammy movement. Try making slight movements in different directions, retightening the screws, and testing how it affects the whammy. Obviously, test on a song that has a long note at the beginning for you to analyze it's effects. When it feels right, close the guitar and it should be fine. I had to do this a few days ago when my whammy stopped working, and it works fine now. |

How can you test it without closing the guitar? When the guitar is open, the strumbar is very loose and doesn't stay in place and so is the whammy bar (the bar can touch the body of the guitar itself when you activated it). So I dont think I would be able to strum the first note and test the whammy bar so I need to re-screw it everytime I try. _________________

Or, you could just hope you get lucky with strumming the first note right, even though it's super loose. _________________

Well, it won't be perfect, but you should be able to play at least one note without closing the guitar. I was able to. |

My little brother's whammy bar is like that. It sounds gross if you think about it figuratively, but I'm trying not to. Anyways, I hate playing on his guitar controller. _________________

The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago... someone else suggested taking a couple of medium-sized rubber bands and looping the bar to the back strap peg. It works surprisingly well... much more responsive than the spring. I haven't even had to replace the rubber bands yet.

I have no idea what anything inside the guitar is called. I just said "potentiometer" because that's what quackadilly said. |

The temporary fix until you get around to opening it up, is to take a rubber band, and wrap it around the metal bar on the outside, and where the cord goes into the guitar. You have to put the rubber band through the cord so this can work.
It works, looks like crap but it works until you get around to opening it, or are afraid to. _________________
