Kotick's at it again. Hearing things like this makes me want to buy Activision titles even less. Does he think saying things like this will actually help him appeal to more people? It's true that bad publicity is better than no publicity, but it's as if trying to garner some good publicity has never occured to him. _________________

More?! He's already releasing all these band games that are nearly 200 dollars, and that renegade version of dj hero I think is actually listed as over 200. Even Modern Warfare has that Prestige edition.
If this is him wishing he could charge more, he'd probably charge your immortal soul for the Diablo 2 special edition. |

^ I'd still buy it ._.
Does this guy realise his main audience is the 13 year old army that flocks over XBox Live and PSN? Holy pocketmoney, Batman. _________________

Sadly I don't think he's the first one to think of this, I'm sure game prices will just keep on increasing, especially with games like guitar hero since there is the demand for it _________________

Kotick's an ass. He doesn't even pretend to care about the games, just money. I realize that pretending to care isn't much better, but at least it doesn't proclaim for the world that you're an asshole.
If he turns the prices up even more, I'll stop buying. Simple as that. And contrary to what people say, yes I WOULD be able to live without Blizzard's games and Modern Warfare 2. I'm actually getting a bad taste in my mouth from knowing they're being published under the Activision name. |

This guy needs to get his head on straight. All he wants is money and he does what he has to do to get more and more, which is why we're seeing Eight, (count em') "Hero" Branded games this year. (This includes GHArcade). Why we see new tony hawk games every year, including this year which costs 120.00 USD. I'm getting sick of Activision and I almost don't want to give them my money. But it looks like with MW2 and GH5, they'll be getting at least $160 of my money. *sigh* _________________

Is it possible for him to not say something stupid? He is one of many reasons why people hate Activision. _________________

According to other reports I read, other people on the panel laughed after he said that, implying that he was joking.
But really, even if he wasn't, is it that surprising? I'm sure pretty much all the other CEOs are thinking the same thing. |

I liken it more to how everyone laughs when a mad scientist says he's going to rule the world. |

Edit: Fuck, I forgot EA publishes it and Activision Dropped it. Sorry.

Of course, this is where everyone gets their hate for Activision from, it's from Kotick. I swear, he needs to like resign or something, because these comments are getting ridiculous. It'll only pour more fuel on the fire when it comes to gaming websites hating anything having to do with Activision. Which is sad, really, because Neversoft, Infinity Ward, and Treyarch are actually making good games, and all Kotick wants to do is to rip off gamers. Neversoft, Infinity Ward and Treyarch need to find a new publisher, because honestly, they deserve better than to work with this asshole (Kotick).
I mean, Guitar Hero 5 and Modern Warfare 2 look absolutely amazing in terms of gameplay and graphics. Now, if only there wasn't that CEO, then maybe sites like Joystiq.com wouldn't make smart, witty comments about Guitar Hero and bash the series. _________________

If you read the context of the quote hes talking about only the price points on the specific premium editions that the analyst was talking baout. He;s not saying that all prices should be higher, he was answering that the retailers were comfortable with those price points (the specific question asked), but that if if was up to him he actually thinks there is some market room for those prices to be higher. Painting it as a foot in mouth siutuation as that blog does actually belies a sort of ignorance. If people want to show that he is wrongthey just have to not let themselves be overcharged for games for a few times (by not buying them) and youd see their price-raising experiments fail.
But more likely its like when xbl broke the 800 point barrier on downloadable titles like Braid, etc being 1200. There was lots of bawwing from some people in whose rational self interest it was good for prices not to rise (ie consumers) but the results of that (and most later uses of 1200) pretty clearly showed that the market could easily support that price point on many titles, validating (at least in a pure capitalistic sense) the original intuition that caused them to test the hypothesis.
Good (or perhaps even not-bad) human being he certainly isn't. but in business, nothing succeeds like success and the man definitely has a track record as a successful capitalist. _________________
