Well first of all, i ask you not to reply with GET A JOB, LAZY
not positive where to put this, considering its somewhat involved with RB but its more just about money

alright so my fat ps2 is really old and now it doesnt read well
My rockband cd never read well at all and now it doesnt read at all
btw i have tried a few methods to make my rb cd work, each ended unsuccessfully

so i could either buy a new rockband cd and a new ps2 which is around $150
or i could save for a ps3 and get the good version of the game (without getting new instruments, which is why i excluded 360) and DLC.
if i get an 80gig ps3 (since the 40gigs arent ps2 compatible and i like my ps2 games) and the game, it adds to $550
I am planning on getting a ps3 regardless

now the latter sounds like the best solution, but right now i only have like 80 dollars and i most likely wouldnt be able to get the ps3 till my bday in september
If i get the ps2 then i could get it in less than a month, but i would probably not be able to get a ps3 till christmas then...

in a nut shell... Rockband doesnt work, i have the instruments, i want to get a ps3 eventually, should i get it first (no rb till sept) or get a new ps2 shortly (ps2 rb till xmas), then get the ps3 a long time afterward

My solution:

Don't get a PS3.

For the most part, they're shit. Not a whole lot that people like about them. I (surprisingly) know a few people that have them, and they were all SORELY disappointed. They view it as one of the biggest wastes of money they have ever been unfortunate enough to squander (although one of my friends bought an 80's muscle car that consumes more gas than the United States can provide him). Of course, if they ever release a PS3 exclusive remake of Final Fantasy 7 in Hi-Def, you can be sure that I'll be one of the first people to go run out and buy an HDTV and a PS3. However, that's the only reason. Stick to the PS2.

Examples of times this has happened previously: N64 - Gamecube. Popular consensus is that N64 > Gamecube, simply because of the sheer amount of awesome games as opposed to higher graphics. The only thing that PS3 has over PS2 that matters (to me anyway) is: 1)Online, 2)Hi-Def, 3)Possibility of epic PS3 exclusive release(s).

Of course, there are probably people out there that enjoy their PS3's. They're wrong, of course. :P (just kidding)

But yeah, if you couldn't guess, I say DEFINITELY go PS2 and stick with that. If you can get a free PS3 for Christmas, then go for it >.>

I wouldn't pay for one of those things for anything, sans the situation mentioned above. Or if it came with a really hot girl or something. But no other time.

EDIT: I figure I shouldn't make this into a separate post, because it's off-topic and only replying to Cliff's post.

Yeah, because we all know how well the PS2 played regular DVD's. Sure, it worked fine at first, but after a while... well, at this point, my PS2 (neither of them, actually; neither my slim nor my fat) will not play DVD's at all if there's even a speck of dust on them >.>

For Blu-Ray: wait until Blu-Ray players drop in price. They will, just like DVD players. Hell, just buy a 1080p converter DVD player. It's less than $100, and it'll convert your REGULAR DVD's into higher resolution. Basically like HD-lite. That's assuming you even HAVE an HDTV. Most people (at least that I know) don't.

And then we will colonize the sun and make little communities. Because if we can put a man on the moon, then obviously we can do this.

i'm gonna have to completely disagree with immortal x.

ps3 is awesome.

now that 2nd gen games are coming out for it, you really starting to see what it can do. see Unreal tournament, uncharted

the blu ray player is excellent and has 1 key feature that most stand alone blu-players won't have. it can connect to the internet and update firmware. now that the format war is over, you can be sure a new version of blu-ray movies will come out and will require new firmware.
it also can upcovert your regular dvd's to 1080p

its easily networkable with your pc to share all your music, movies, photos.

the six axis controller is starting to get some fun games utilizing the motion sensor like high velocity bowling, sky diving(each on $10 from the ps store). heavenly sword had a few good parts too with it

the hard drive is a 2.5 sata laptop drive. which means you purchase any sized one you want and install it easily so you can have a 500gb ps3 : heres a link how http://www.gamersreports.com/article/43/

the option to install other OS's like linux

blue tooth controllers that are quickly rechargable (and last a long time on a single full charge)

its reliable & sony's support is good. unlike microsoft...

Actually, you're probably better off asking this question in misc. game discussion (or just searching there; the subject has probably been discussed before).

You've got to be fucking kidding me. More than a year after the PS3s release, and you still think it's somehow the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market?

Sharp Aquos 1080p - $299.99.

Samsung BD-P1000 - $269.99 ($249.99 if you buy from TigerDirect)

And there were several other models I was able to find quite quickly that you can get for almost half the price of a PS3. Good try, though.[/url]

Alright, let's review.

1) You're using numbers in place of words.
2) You're spelling at the second grade level.
3) You're posting in CAPS.
4) This post is in the wrong place, and should have been in Software.

Conclusion: Custom songs are not your "cup of tea", and I'd suggest undertaking a much more simpler hobby. Perhaps tree watching.

The guitar itself is laggy. I find myself missing notes where I KNOW I should be hitting them. It doesn't make the game unplayable, but it's irritating.

Back on topic:

People are quick to bash the PS3. Hell, I was one of em back in the day. But when convienience showed up (I got a PS3 soon after Christmas because I couldn't find any copies of RB for 360) , I found myself pleasantly surprised by the PS3. Sure it's a bit more expensive, but with backwards compatibility(with the proper model ) it's got the PS2 and PS1 games you know and love.

Granted, I don't see the PS3 being the powerhouse the PS2 was, that doesn't mean it's the worst system ever.

In the end, it's ultimately up to you. Given your situation, if you can tolerate not playing RB until later this year, I'd get the PS3 first, and entertain myself with the good games that DON'T cost $160.

Except for the crappy online functionality there's little wrong with the actual game. If it had decent guitars (not those laggy pieces of shit we have to deal with now) it would be just as good as the 360 version (I'm not mentioning Wii & PS2 because they didn't get a few characters/ guitars and HD images).

There are no lag issues with the Strat. It just has a crappy strum bar. ;)
