I've been playing around with my x360 version and PS2 versions and trying to extract the images. I'm starting with the highways (necks) right now. I managed to extract .img files from the PS2 version and on the x360 version they are .tex files. But I have not been able to figure out a way to display the images and or edit them either. I was curious if anyone else has looked at these yet and had any results with them.

I also checked out the loading_screen from the PS2 version, which is also an .img file. I threw it into UltraEdit and found some interesting thing things. Like the works guitar, bass, drums and tutorial. There are also several references to various tutorial song.paks. I'm thinking that it could possibly be a multi-layed image, simular to a photoshop psd, but am probably incorrect on this.

It's likely they're a form of DDS (Direct Draw Surface). Most likely DXT1 or DXT5.
