|
|
Im posting this form to see what you guys think on this matter, "Are you good at guitar hero just based on how much time you put into the game, or by natural skill at it?"
I have never met somebody who was natually good at guitar hero, as in starting on expert and getting 100% on the first song they have ever played. So I have a opinion on how people get good on guitar hero. Its by how long they spend on playing the game.
Some people have a "natual ability" for what they are good at, example: Kobe Bryant. You can tell this guy just has a amazing, unteachable, unlearnable "gift" that only a few people in the world have(in basketball). Its something they are born with. Sure he worked hard at becoming good at basketball and training his skill; but he just has a natural gift and skill at the game. This "natual ability"...lets call it "G"
Now for Guitar Hero, majority people start out on Easy or Medium difficulty (mabey even fail there first song), then work their way up to Hard and Expert difficulty, and they get better only by spending more time playing it.
Here's my question If i spent as much time as kobe bryant does on playing the game of basketball, would i be as good as him?
here's another question If i spent as much time as guitarherophenom on playing guitar hero, would i be as good as him?
Honestly I dont beleive if Guitar Hero had a "natual gift"/"G" that even the bests GH player in the world would have it. I can think of a great Guitar hero player that didnt start out being the best, but over time of playing it, he became better than the people he used to face (by spending more time) But i can bet you that kobey bryant could beat a over half the world in a game of 1v1 basketball...when he was 17 (not maxing out yet), thats a natural gift.
so what do you guys think, do you think guitar hero is a game you can develope over time, or something your just good at? I have my opinion what do you think? i believe the best guitar hero players are the one's who play the game the most hours

EDIT 1
so after reading all these post, ive come to a conclusion that there is some sort of natural skill and a "Gift" at guitar hero, BUT...your never going to max out (reach your full potential) at your skill without proper time and pratice.
and in some RARE cases, there are people who are supercrazy at guitar hero, when they first start playing it. AKA::Smokyprogg (read his post page 3), BUT they didnt just max out there, they got better and keep getting bettter.

EDIT 2
I would like to thank all you guys who have posted in this thread so far. I have a more clear understanding on how people get to be really good at guitar hero from reading all these post.
Because where I come from, most people would tell me guitar hero take "no ability/natural skill" at all, and its just you melting all your time in trying to be good at somthing. alot of people sound like this, "if i just spent as much time at guitar hero as you have, i would be a top guitar hero player just like you" and now I know its just more than spending time on guitar hero to be good. =D thanks guys
I will continue reading everybodys post and commenting back if i find something interesting. _________________

So you think some people are born with a natual gift at being good a GH?
I respect that opinion, and alot of people beleive that more than what im saying, but can you explain this
theres a kid who got GHII, he played "Jordan" on expert and fail within the first 15 seconds, 1 year later he can beat jordan with a score of 400k and tap solo B, is that skill or time _________________

While this is sort of true, in the end it all comes down to natural ability.
Now, just because they didn't FC a song there first try, they're still more likely to get up to expert faster than others.
Some people are just not capable of moving their fingers that fast, or processing and reacting to the notes fast enough.
I've seen people who just have NO sense of rhythm, even if they know the song, they still won't hit the notes on beat.
Playing a ton will get you to as good as you can be, but it won't guarantee a FGFC. Playing for 200 more hours won't necessarily allow me to strum DWDTG or hit SWTA trills.
Just like how if I ran everyday for 6 hours, I wouldn't be the fastest guy in the world. _________________

Almost everyone has a "wall." I've been playing since GH1 came out. But I know I've reached my peak, because if I play too much, my hands/wrists get fatigued to the point of definite decrease in dexterity. So it's not a matter of "just practice more." If I practice too much, I actually get worse, since I physically can't keep up. This is most apparent with fast strumming. That's where I hit my wall. After a few days break from GH/RB, I can do well again, but not really improve. |

Its a combination, but natural talent is certainly a factor. iamchris4life is a prime example of this. He picks up and rhythm game and is almost instantly one of the best at it. _________________

I'm pretty sure we've had this basic nature vs nurture debate about twelve million times and it always comes down to the same thing, so let's just skip right to it:
A top player wrote: | If you work hard, you can achieve anything blah blah semi-sincere inspirational nonsense. |
Someone who's not a top player wrote: | A top player wrote: | If you work hard, you can achieve anything blah blah semi-sincere inspirational nonsense. |
That's all very well for you to say from your lofty position blah blah blah |

Do you seriously think I was just naturally this good? |

Yes. |

Shut up you.
Back on topic - 'practice makes perfect' is a lie. It helps, but there has to be some natural talent there already. 'Practice makes polished' would be more accurate. |

As for being as good as Kobe Bryant.. no, probably not.
Could you be as good as Phenom if you invested the time he has? I wouldn't put that as much out of the question. Nothing against him, because he's a great player, but Phenom wasn't always as unreal as he is now. Part of the reason he's so good is because he's practiced so much to the point where everything is easy for him. Sure, he had some musical background as well and a little bit of natural talent too, but I think anyone can be good at GH if they play 6-8+ hours a day. |

I say GH is more about Skill rather than the time you put into it. I have been playing for over a year, but I am nowhere near the skill of most of the players on this site. It seems like no matter how much practice i put into it, I will probably never have the level of skill that those players have. _________________
