For those who don't know, absolute pitch or perfect pitch is being able to identify a musical note and name it without any references to other notes. So, if you were to play a E-flat note behind my back, I'd know it was an E-flat, along with the other 11 pitches.

I believe that I "learned" it when my grandpa bought us an electric keyboard that had all the musical notes labeled. I was around four years old at the time.

Test your skill at http://perfectpitchtest.com/

I think it's a pretty cool concept, does anyone else have this?

Wow, that sounds like an amazing talent. Seems like it'd take a lot more than basic memorization.

I don't really have any way of telling if I do, but I do know dfan has it.

However, it would be a really cool talent to have. And you could always fake it.

I can't say I do. I can recognize the low E on a guitar thanks to Yellow Ledbetter and I can think of it off the top of my head but I can't recognize E's in other octaves so it's not true absolute pitch by any means, but simple memorization.

I've wished I had that ability for a while :P. Oddly enough, I can identify C3 by sound alone, but that's the only one. That's also the note I sing by default if I just hold a note without trying to raise or lower my voice at all, so I suppose I've heard it more than other notes. If I think hard about it I can identify one or two notes above or below it, or other C's.

One thing I've wondered, are there people that can hear a chord and tell you all the notes that are in it?

I can identify the A Harmonic Minor scale, but that's about it. Kind of weird, eh?

With a combination of good relative and absolute pitch, totally. If they can identify the root note and the intervals in the chord then they could easily tell you the notes in it.

"All Done! - you got 0 of 12 correct"

Well shit. I don't know what I was expecting but I'd think I would have gotten at least one. I think I was just off with the scale in my head. I'm gonna try the Relative Pitch Test to see if I do better...

"All Done! - you got 3 of 12 correct"

And one of them was a freebie. ;_;

I can do that. It takes me about 15-30 seconds to figure out the note, but I can do it.

Got all correct. I've had this ability as long as I can remember (this can be helpful as well as not in the musical world because I can "hear" what certain notes sound like to keep good intonation on a stringed [orchestra] instrument. However, perfect pitch can be wrongly adjusted if one gets used to notes wrong because of winter weather, etc.)

I wish I had this. Then I would easily be able to play a song on guitar by ear.
