Simple: Put it in the drive and see if you a "Erase Disc Contents" appears when you right-click the drive in My Computer.

I'm assuming your OP means DVD-R/RW, not CD.
If it is CD, throw them out they won't work.
If its the other, they are probable DVD-R discs which will work. Some discs have the "RW" logo ... |
