Well, since it was a joke, what are the most important albums of the '60's in your opinion? |
In my opinion? Probably In the Court of King Crimson or Led Zeppelin's s/t. _________________

Wtf? What's wrong with King Crimson? Their debut is excellent.
EDIT: Oh never mind, I get it now. |

60s: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
-Honorable Mention: Led Zeppelin I.
70s: Fragile- Yes
-Honorable Mentions: Led Zeppelin IV, Boston, Rush, Blood On The Tracks- Bob Dylan, Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here- Pink Floyd. (The first three are self-titled or not-titled)
80s Rock: Nothing's Shocking- Jane's Addiction
-Honorable Mentions: Making Movies- Dire Straits, Daydream Nation- Sonic Youth
80s Metal: Back In Black- AC/DC
-Honorable Mentions: Appetite For Destruction- Guns N' Roses, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?- Megadeth, Number of the Beast- Iron Maiden
Let's name Michael Jackson and Queen in this for good measure. They deserve it.
90s: Nevermind- Nirvana
-Honorable Mentions: Images and Words- Dream Theater, Ten- Pearl Jam, MTV Live Unplugged in New York- Nirvana
00s: Wolfmother
-Honorable Mentions: Up From Below- Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Oh No- OK Go, Who Killed Amanda Palmer- Amanda Palmer, Thing-A-Week [Collection]- Jonathan Coulton
Too hard! So many great albums! Some extra love to Muse, System of a Down, Barenaked Ladies, Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Phoenix, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Steely Dan, Weezer, and The Who.
I feel I may have strayed from my favorites for general best... but favorites have always been very hard for me to pick. Would have been better as a list of "These Albums Are Awesome". _________________

Wow I haven't checked this thread in a bit. Anyway, what's wrong with you people?
BEST = FAVORITE.
People are picking albums based entirely on influence, which is exactly what you WEREN'T supposed to do in this thread. I wanna know what your favorite albums from each decade are, not what Rolling Stone says your favorite album of each decade should be or else it's fairly obvious that everybody's list will be
60's: Beatles
70's: Zep
80's: Metallica, Megadeth, or Iron Maiden
90's: Nirvana
2000: there's no such thing as good music after 1991.
Which is pretty much what half the lists in this thread turned out to be anyway. I mean come on, who the hell actually likes The Beatles because they sound good? Very few people. At least half of their fans just like them because they were influential. But influence just means they were the right band at the right time. They got lucky. That says nothing about how good they actually are. _________________

Maybe people actually, uh, y'know, like those bands. Just a thought. _________________

Don't flit from one thing to another, because that just smacks of a large lack of determination and drive. And people don't like you for that, and won't remember you for it. I mean, I get that you have a plucky spirit and a willingness to try new things, but there's a limit, man. | I might knock it down to just Thursday and Friday. |

evilpacman18 ... wat
I'm now laughing uncontrollably at this thread as well, but for an entirely different reason than killzonedout.
Sure, The Beatles were influential, but if they weren't REALLY FUCKING GOOD, do you think people would have been influenced by them? It then follows that if they were/are REALLY FUCKING GOOD, lots of people are going to enjoy listening to them. Why do you think nobody has really named brokeNCYDE as an influence?
Jesus Christ, pull your head out of your ass. _________________

Wow, I can't believe you actually said this. lol I love The Beatles. I love the way they sound and the way they play. I love their songs and lyrics. Everything about their music is just awesome. The reason why they were influential is because they were good and people liked them. Luck had absolutely nothing to do with that. A bad band doesn't become influential because only a few people like them.
I respect you evilpacman, but this statement is pretty crappy and diluted to say the most. |

Abbey Road is better than most stuff from the 60's anyways, despite the fact that Here Comes The Sun and Polythene Pam are on it. The Beatles apparently sounded good to a vast majority of the people who bought the >1 billion albums they sold so clearly they must have done something right. _________________

"There's no good music after 1991"
I could not disagree more. (this is the part where I name all my favorite CDs after 1991)
Weezer, Green Day, OK Go, Foo Fighters, Honest Bob, Black Eyes Peas (only Monkey Business. Their new stuff sucks), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rush still have some good stuff, The Flaming Lips, IT GOES ON. Bawwwfest over. My favorite CDs per decade (max 5)
60s: Beatles' Sgt. Peppers Lonely Club Hearts Band
70s: Led Zeppelin 4, 2112 by Rush, or Boston.
80s: Moving Pictures by Rush or Nothing's Shocking by Jane's Addiction
90s: Ten by Pearl Jam, Blue Album by Weezer, Pinkerton by Weezer, Nimrod by Green Day, Nevermind by Nirvana
00s: Warning by Green Day, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips, OK Go by OK Go, Turn on the Bright Lights by Interpol, Secont and Eighteen by Honest Bob and the Factory to Dealer Incentives
10s: Of the Blue Colour of the Sky by OK Go (only CD I have of this 'decade')
I know someone is going to complete attack me. yay. haha _________________

Ok, let's try this.
60's - Tie between
- In the Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson
- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles
Runner up
- Axis: Bold As Love
Oh my gosh, I like albums that happen to be really popular and influental! Oh noez!
70's - Master of Reality - Black Sabbath
Runner up - 2112 - Rush
Master of Reality has tons of AWESOME songs on it. Sweet Leaf, Lord of this World, Into the Void, Children of the Grave... Love it. 2112 is definitive Rush, and it's epic. The songs besides the title track are really good too.
80s - Moving Pictures - Rush
Runner up - Appetite for Destruction - Guns N' Roses
I grew up hearing Moving Pictures all the time, and still hear it all the time, due to it being played in my house ALOT. Even if I hadn't have heard it all the time, it would still be one of my favorites, because it's awesome. Also AfD is just cool.
90s - Images and Words - Dream Theater
Runner up - Rust in Peace - Megadeth
Also - Focus - Cynic
Also Also - Jar of Flies - Alice in Chains
Images in words is my favorite DT album, and DT is one of my favorite bands, so yeah. Rust in Peace got me into "heavier" music, sort of. Both are really good albums, imo. And Cynic is awesome also. As is AiC.
00's - Tie between Crack the Skye and Blood Mountain - Mastodon
Runners up
- Deadwing or In Absentia - Porcupine Tree
- Lateralus - Tool
- Day and Age - The Killers
Lots of cool Prog rock/metal albums that I love to death. Yay for cool modern prog stuff. Even though Mastodon is only vaguely proggy, whatever. And The Killers are awesome when you don't want something so... complicated. _________________

It find it funny that you rant about rockist canonization and completely ignore that some of the more famous critical darlings came after 1991. Every big Radiohead album, almost every big hip-hop album, every big Pavement album, Grace, Siamese Dream, Endtroducing.... _________________
