Integrity has nothing to do with it. They all probably actually believe what they are saying and for them Guitar Hero probably does seem to be desperate and doing something really dumb. I mean whenever you dive head first into rock tropes you end up with four groups:

People that think that rock tropes are stupid and don't respond.

People that think rock tropes are stupid and love the satire.

People that realize rock tropes are kind of stupid but love them anyway.

People that embrace rock tropes completely and love them with complete sincerity.

I fall into the third category. I accept that Immortal looks fucking retarded when they dress up, and having 10 solos in a song is really self indulgent, but I love it and wouldn't have it any other way. That's why metal is so often misunderstood, it's kind of like a quantum inside joke that is all at once taken completely seriously yet not taken seriously at all. Unless you're in a black metal band, then you take it way too seriously (not all I know).

In the end there will be two kinds of people, the kind that think turning into monsters and fighting a giant robot with the power of rock is the dumbest thing they've ever heard, or people that think it's the coolest thing they've ever heard. In my experience the latter are way more fun to hang around with than the former.

As a big fan of Brutal Legend, I think it's a fantastic idea. Sure it's silly and ridiculous, but that is what makes it fun. They could've just had it be another simple stage setup, but they decidde to put on some steel balls and go all crazy on us and I think that's a far more interesting presentation than what RB3 will bring. (Not a flame cause I'm buying RB3 too lol)
