I always try strumming down but I just can't. I watch everyone else do it, and it seems like I'm the only one who sub consciously strums up rather than down.
I can alternate strum alright, I recently just learnt how to play The Way It Ends consistently well. But when I strum up on just single notes? Nope. My hand just automatically starts strumming up again lol

Does anyone else strum up? Or is it just me?

So you can't down strum single notes? You up strum them? I don't get it. Just force yourself to do it. You'll get used to it.

If it works and doesn't penalize you, keep doing it this way. Otherwise, just force yourself into learning how to downstrum.

It could limit you in some ways, actually. For example, if you wanna be able to single strum really quickly, you're gonna be more limited in speed if you upstrum with your finger. If you do it with proper wrist motion, however, you can do it just as quickly as most players can downstrum. So yeah, it is different that you do that, but not necessarily wrong.

I thought of that when I posted this actually, but I didn't know if it was true. It could be possible to upstrum really fast with one finger...

tipperqueen used to do that. she also wouldn't anchor notes for things like trills either. i think these factors, especially the latter, limited her potential.

I strum up; I always have! Even though on a real guitar you'd strum down when single strumming. It's easier to whammy while strumming up.

I use just my index finger to strum, both single and alt. I could strum faster by holding the bar with my thumb and index finger, and this in fact has enabled me to build a 4x/8x in the Knights of Cydonia tremolos... but I always drop multiplier switching between ways of strumming.

Actually I've always strummed up as well, can still strum down though but just not as good. I always thought it depended on if you was a lefty or not. lol
