I usually go with the following guidelines, although these are occasionally tweaked depending on how fast or slow my perception is, as my mind sometimes changes randomly.
<120: HS5 and Sudden+350
120: HS5 (maybe Sudden+, but I haven't messed with it much outside of really slow songs like Reflection and 5.1.1.)
165: HS4.5
175: HS4
185: HS3.5
220: HS3
220<x<300: Whatever the hell feels right. This usually requires testing before running a song, since the songs that go this fast suck and I never play them.
300: HS1, defined for MAX 300.

Hey Krim, here's a bit of a timing challenge for you.
See if you can AAA Blueberry Stream [n]...
Maybe my timing just sucks, but the best I've gotten is -1. Grrr. |

Hey Krim, how do you warm up? I don't know if you're like me, but I can't just jump right into hard songs.. I really have to condition myself first. Any particular songs or techniques you like to use to get yourself going? |

No, nothing in particular. I usually just play a few 10s to get started and let that do the job. |

I got IIDX Red today. I'm going to pull an all-nighter for sightreading the songs on [h] and [a] and edit the topic with my results.
EDIT: so much for the all-nighter. I got tired early and so far I've only gotten through the [a] 6's and the [h] 7's, with a few random songs in other places. |

All Red songs through Level 8 passed. Two Level 8+ songs left in [h] and a bunch left in [a]. |

Ugh, GAMBOL is officially the lamest IIDX song ever. I passed [a7] Expert courses 1-5 and 7 to unlock the Slake course, played through the Slake course, got to GAMBOL with 34% (/me flips off BLOCKS), and failed because of that piece of shit. |

Oh happy day! First 12 passed within 14 months of my first time playing IIDX!
Yeah, it's a crappy score. Whatever. I played about 3 songs for warm up and got this my second try. The second pic is mainly there because it says "DJ Krim" at the bottom. |
