Woo Hoo!!
Seriously though,
I think we all appreciate Carrot's time and effort. What happened to Kaiser?
One thing Carrot,
You asked about the battle system in the MMO portion of my entry. I guess I expected battles to run more like an online version of the CCG. Not like a regular MMO, with the exception that the characters would be affected/changed by the world (new equipment and inventory etc...) and the battle itself would be affected slightly by the world (terrain.) But the battles would still be turn based and stategic...not button mashing.
So which way is better? I played MMO's back when they were text based...so who knows how good the battles are now. Back then it was pretty lame. |

Can't wait to see the final submissions. I'm not putting anything in myself, just because my writing doesn't seem to be up to par for this challenge and I can't quite get the correct balance of concise yet thorough. Hell, my week 3 submission got points off for being too long-winded AND not explaining things in enough detail. Whoops!
I'll be rooting for rkcr to win just because he was kind enough to present the KoL challenge that I've been having fun with the past few days. (Sorry maml!) _________________

I'm currently experiencing the early stages of lyme disease, which is easily treatable, but I essentially have the superflu atm. The tick had been there for a bit longer than it should have, but I didn't notice it until yesterday.
So...sorry for 1) delaying the results 2) not getting them in at all. I'm going to do my best to get stuff in for week 4, and if not that, I'll be sure to look at the final submissions. |
He's been pretty out of it the past couple of weeks.
As far as what battle system to use; it really is your decision, it just would be nice if it was elaborated on, especially if it is more unique than traditional MMO battle systems. Now if you are asking which I would prefer; I'd lean more towards an interesting hybrid system that incorporates the CCG card battles with some of the better mechanics from traditional MMOs. There are games out there that have tried to infuse CCG elements into their battle system, like Baten Kaitos. _________________

I just missed deadline for the whole thing
I had an RPG made and as opposed to posting a description, I'd just post the link to the actual game. _________________

Well, we have the results in from the final submissions. Only one person submitted, which made my job a tad easier (notice I'm posting this on time as per the schedule?)
I would like to congratulate rkcr for sticking with this the past few months, it shows that you've got the dedication required to stick with a long and tough project. I hope to see you in the game industry some day.
Everyone else that participated in this little challenge also deserves a round of applause, even doing just one of these was tough, I appreciate that people spent some time on this and I hope everyone enjoyed writing out their game ideas.
Speaking of which; there were some really cool ideas that came out of this, it would be awesome to see some of these fleshed out more and eventually created. Everyone that participated should be proud of what they accomplished, regardless of the rank that was given (which doesn't really matter anyway).
So here's rkcr's final submission - I did the review a bit differently for this one, mainly because my thoughts on the design were already given on the first iteration. So you'll see that I wrote notes on specific parts to hopefully help further shape and mold this design overview into something more complete.
Thanks again everyone, I had a great time reading and critiquing your work, I am honored. _________________

Sorry about not doing my full design. I was so busy with school that I then needed a long break from doing any writing...and I kind of forgot. I did enjoy this, though, and it has made me seriously consider game development. _________________

Yeah, I was lazy too.
But what a fun contest. I hope you guys do another one. I commend your time and effort on this. Really cool. |

There should be a Game Design Challenge v2.
I would totally get on the go with that. |

I would be interested as well! Though, I may take a game design class, and I'd hate to use up all my ideas out here.
We should get sluggo to judge! _________________
