I'd like to nominate Harry Chapin's entire song catalogue:
Songs like the aforementioned Cat's in the Cradle, but also W*O*L*D, about a morning radio DJ who plays love songs for his wife whom he's no longer with, but then when he returns from his constant traveling he finds she has a new husband.
Or Mr. Tanner, about a cleaner in a small town who can sing extraordinarily well: "Music was his life/It was not his livelihood/And it made him feel so happy/And it made him feel so good/He did not know how well he sang/It just made him whole." He then goes to New York to perform and gets wrecked by critics. He returns, smiles to his inquisitive friends, and says nothing. He never sings again, except late at night, along, folding clothes.
There are several more- I Wanna Learn A Love Song, Shortest Story, but the two I described are the ones I know best. _________________

No song has ever moved me as much as The Mountain Goats' "Matthew 25:21". _________________

The only song that has made me cry is Grace by Jeff Buckley. I think it's the most emotional and beautiful song ever made. It's like, whatever you're feeling, this song will make that feeling 10 times stronger. If I'm happy when I listen to it, it just makes me feel amazing inside. Peaceful. But if I'm feeling a bit down this song makes me cry almost every time. If any of you haven't heard this song, listen to it now, it's amazing.
EDIT: There is one other song, but it's in swedish, so not many on here will understand it Anyway, here's a link if you want to hear it. It's about a kid in my age who got beat to death over a girl outside a house-party in my town a couple of years ago. Also, Joshua Radin's Sunny Days (the sesame street cover) gets me sometimes. _________________

The only song I can remember crying because of is On Eagles Wings, which was played at my grandfather's memorial. Ironically, he's the grandparent I was least attached to, yet I cried not only when it was played at the memorial, but the next time I heard it as well. It's still pretty powerful for me.
A number of other songs have definitely moved me, but I can't think of specific ones right now _________________

Queen - Bijou
Quote: | Forever, yeah, forever, my bijou... |
Beautiful piece of work...
Also, I actually had to listen the song to describe it! _________________

You Learn by Alanis Morissette got close one time, just because of how dense that chorus is. _________________

Only one song I have ever heard has ever brought me to tears: Redemption Song performed by Joe Strummer. That guy was a hero to me and it just destroys me inside when the chorus hits. "Won't you help to sing / these songs of freedom / cuz all I ever had / redemption song" _________________

More posting from me, but whatever.
This song is...wow. This song touches me a lot too. I really have no relation to it, but shit, the atmosphere of it just makes me damn sad but it's an empowering song also. This is really a great song and well done.
Another song that doesn't get me to cry but gets me on some level is "Let it Dive" by The Trail Of Dead. Not really sad, just a very well done song that connects with me somehow. |

Fine, I'll fess up... I occassionaly get emotional over these songs, especially after my breakup w/ my ex
Don't Want To Miss A Thing - Aerosmith
November Rain - Guns n' Roses
Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead
We've Got Tonight - Bob Seger
Asleep - The Smiths (this song is very depressing)
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd (very rarely...only if I'm feeling really down) _________________

Recent song for me is
"If It Means A Lot To You" by A Day To Remember
mostly because it was my ex's favorite song, and the reason we broke up is kind of presented in that song. |
