Because generally when people discuss avant-garde metal it is not even remotely avant-garde (I understand it is subjective, but you should understand what I mean)
Plus, generally discussion of metal is predominate, and it would divert the topic away from the other areas. Just look at the prog thread if you want proof.

No. That's fucking absurd. Why the hell should I have to explicitly specify 'no metal' when the title made no mention of metal and I gave a link in the OP to a specific example of the sort of thing I was talking about? Stupid of me to think that people would read that, I suppose.
Note the title of the forum: Music Discussion. Until they change it to Metal Discussion, you have no reason to assume every topic is about metal. Just because 90% of the people on this god-forsaken forum think that metal is the beginning and end of music, it doesn't mean that it has to be the default mode of discussion for every topic. There's other kinds of music out there and it makes me absolutely fucking livid that we're so rarely allowed to talk about them without someone uninvitedly bringing metal into it.

Jesus Christ, we're not even onto a third page yet, is it really that much effort to read it all?
What it was about: half way down the first page, a post by me with a load of links.
What it's now about: honestly, I don't give a fuck. Apparently I've got to start another one specifying 'no metal' if I want to talk about anything else, so I guess this one is abandoned to the usual fate.
